The Orioles will let former first-round pick Billy Rowell walk as a free agent this offseason.

Rowell, the ninth overall pick in the 2006 MLB Amateur Draft, batted just .243/.306/.314 this summer between rookie ball and Double-A. The 24-year-old corner infielder will try to join up with a new organization.

I'll always remember that time when he

With Rowell gone, poor Matt Hobgood will now be the sole target for posters picking on underperforming former top picks.

Attitude problems and laziness stick in my craw more than anything. Granted, we're seeing things through the lens of the media, and I've never met any of these people personally.

Hobgood was never projected as having the ceiling that Rowell had. The black eye for Jordan will be/is Hobgood and not Rowell, in my opinion.

It will be interesting to see what the O's can do drafting at near the bottom instead of in the top 5.

The O's gave Rowell a $2.1M signing bonus in 2006. Not sure what the minor league minimum salary is for 6 years, but if you add all that up I'm sure he had more money in his early 20s than most guys I know.

I'm sure he did. But weed can get expensive from what I hear. ;)

Tim Lincecum

Max Scherzer

Tyler Colvin

Daniel Bard

Rowell may be the biggest bust we have had, but with Lincecum sucking this year, it makes his bust not look as awful. It's not like there were 10 all-stars picked after him.

He still was awful.

What? No. Why? Because he didn't win his 3rd Cy Young award? It's still as bad as it ever was.

When I saw "Trouble with the Curve", the "star" athlete that had trouble with the curve reminded me of Billy Rowell. He had such a bad attitude with the Shorebirds back when he was first starting out. Another player that reminds me of him is Jason Esposito of the autograph jersey flap with the girl from Somerset county.

As for Lincecum, his days as an effective starter are pretty much over, but he could become a dominant closer. His stature just isn't that great anymore to be consistent with starts and this postseason has shown that he is better suited as a reliever. If Wilson continues to get hurt, I could see the Giants turn to Lincecum to close.
