BlueJays on verge of acquiring Josh Johnson

Despite popular belief, the Blue Jays are NOT a small market club. Toronto is a world class city with a significantly larger population than Baltimore (5.5m vs 2.5m) as well as a media market that includes all of Canada and several million people in upstate New York.

Neither are the Orioles, though you'd have a hard time convincing alot of people of that.

Why? Reyes>Hardy

Buherle>just about anyone we have.

Agreed on Buck.

No way. Buerhle will struggle to pitch below a 4.00 ERA next season pitching in a launching pad home park and having to travel to Camden Yards, Yankee Stadium, and Fenway to face good offenses several times. I think Tillman, Gonzo, Hammel, Bundy can/will all outpitch him next season. Only thing that favors Buerhle over any of those Orioles pitchers is his durability and ability to eat innings.

You're going to ignore me, I know, but Toronto is 4x bigger than Baltimore, the only team in Canada, has said they have been saving money for the right time, and has a bigger TV deal. The other side of it is that ANGELOS controls the budget, not us, and he has not shown he is going to make those kind of commitments. If he did, the money wouldn't be there for other things. Its such a simple concept yet everyday I read crap on this site as if fans themselves are the ones holding back the payroll.

Obviously, you buy the "Angelos" can't afford to spend "theory". Thats fine too. Never said the fan's control the payroll. The BALTIMORE MEDIA everyday, makes us aware that the O's aren't going to spend money. Sorry for submitting you to reading the crap I post. I wasn't aware you were forced to do so.

AA always said the Jays would spend big money when they were ready. He wasn't kidding... good god.

The Marlins should be penalized by MLB for doing this every couple of years - they are a straight up joke of a franchise.

I'm not shaking in my boots at the Jays yet, but this does change things in the AL East. Gonna be interesting.

It was an attempt to sell out that joke of a new park. They still couldn't fill it. MLB should have learned it's lesson, and contracted that team.

Idk about that. The Marlins have won a couple world series by doing fire sales. I give the Marlins credit for admitting they were wrong and cutting there losses. That being said they really screwed up last offseason.

There are no theories!!!! There is only what he has done. You live in a fantasy world if you think talking down to posters and refusing to acknowledge the actual circumstances will lead to more spending. Seriously, what is your end game?

Also, I didn't know your posts (or anyone elses) would be crap until I read them. Thats how it works.

Buster Olney ‏@Buster_ESPN

Massive deal is in the works, but you would assume MLB is going to take a hard look because of long-term ramifications for MIA market.

They don't care about the Miami market. The owner got his new stadium and is making money hand over fist down there, that is the extent that the commissioner's office cares.

    • Yeah, basically this, that Westburg's underlying numbers (EV, barrel %, xwOBA) seem to point at this being pretty real, or at least that there's nothing 'undeserved / lucky' about this hot streak, if it's just that.
    • The problem with a Cowser/Kjerstad/Stowers/Bradfield outfield roster is there are no right handers to handle LHP. I don't think and completely left handed outfield is the destination for an organization the values versatility.
    • Looks maybe concussion related.
    • How can you not be romantic about baseball? This seems slightly poetic. I enjoyed reading, and correlated your experience in the stands back to what I watch in Game 1 on MASN.  It was also pretty cool to hear Jim Palmer give you a shout out in Game 2 of the series on Live TV.
    • I am not worried.  It just doesn’t remotely meet the eye test.  He has been great in the field . I can think of at least 3 outstanding plays he has made and not any that I thought he should have gotten but didn’t. Meanwhile Holliday is 3 OAA and I can’t think of an outstanding play and can think of a number I thought he should have made.
    • Nicely stated Roy. Every since I was 9 years old and saw the O's vs. the Tokyo Giants in Tokyo in 1971, I've been infected with the Orange/Black virus. There is no cure and I don't want one. You and I sat at the lunch table with Jim Palmer at the 1970 World Series Champs reunion, and its still one of my enduring baseball memories. You said I looked like Carlton Fisk! I was at all 3 games in this Angels series, right behind the O's dugout. I got to see all our boys, and just simply love to watch this team play. And in true baseball fashion, the one game on paper we should have dominated (GRod vs. 8+ ERA Channing), we end up down 7-0 and lose. But watching Gunnar's homers, his electric triple, and he made a fantastic play today on a ball that went under Westburg's glove, Adley do Adley things, Cowser, holy crap. Kimbrel v. Trout with bases loaded, bottom of 9th, 2 outs, down by 2? That was fun. Next game Trout bats leadoff and torches a GRod fastball for a homer to the opposite field.  An observation.... If you didn't know anything about the team, and you only watched game 1 batting practice, you'd think Cowser and O'Hearn were the studs of the team. Mountcastle was taking BP with the reserves and he put on a show as well.  Home after 3 straight days watching this O's team, so jealous of the Balt fans in Balt that get to see the team with regularity. It's a special bunch.
