Baltimore Orioles ‏@Orioles

The Orioles have selected the contracts of INF Jonathan Schoop & LHP Mike Belfiore from Bowie. RHP Oliver Drake has been outrighted to AAA.

Wow...a little surprised about Drake. Thought he would be protected. Maybe we have some other moves coming?

Robinson seems to be a switch hitter, with speed (169 minor league steals) and defense anywhere in the outfield. Fourth outfielder, late inning pinch runner and defensive replacement if Reimold or Davis end up in LF. With the addition of Cassilla, I'm not surprised by this move. And, I'm also satisfied with it.

Trayvon Robinson entered 2011 as a very intriguing prospect for the Los Angeles Dodgers, with many considering him a possible replacement if Matt Kemp were traded, but most of his value was tied to his speed as he had always been a basestealer with a little below average pop. But entering 2011, he found himself hitting 7th for the Albuquerque Isotopes rather than his customary spot at the top of the order and, because of the opportunities to drive in runs that were presented to him in that new batting slot, he started approaching the game a little differently and found his power stroke. He eclipsed his previous season high of 17 home runs and pounded 26 round trippers before he was dealt to Seattle in a three-way trade as the last completed deal in the major leagues at the deadline.

And the Red Sox breathe a sigh of relief...
These types of responses to small moves always seem designed to piss me off. Not every move has to be a blockbuster. Who was saying WOW!! when we signed Nate McLouth to a minor league deal? Or added Darren O'Day to the bullpen? Both turned out to be huge moves. Now, I don't think that acquiring Robinson will turn out to be so important. But you need a pinch runner on your bench if you're going to have Wieters, Hardy, and possibly Reynolds on your roster. You need a defensive replacement for the late innings if Reimold is your starting LF'er. This is a solid, though certainly not major move. And, it's much better than just designating Andino for assignment and losing him for nothing.

With the acquisition of Casilla, the writing was on the wall for this move.

Trayvon Robinson looks to be AAA material at best.

Doesn't look like he hits major league pitching but .... slugged .552 in 408 plate appearances in AAA in 2011. PCL I believe.

Robinson has made a significant improvement, and one might believe there's still more improvement to come.

The Trayvon Robinson the Mariners traded for was an interesting player with a crippling weakness. The Trayvon Robinson the Mariners have now is an interesting player with weaknesses that are in no way crippling at all. Even if this is all that Robinson ever becomes, it took a lot of work to get even this far. Robinson's already done something few players in his position can ever manage to do.

He's a Red Sox killer. Look at the last game of 2011.

I think you missed the joke. :)
