John Sickels' Orioles Top 20

I don't think calling 18th "significantly below average" is fair, but I agree with your overall point that we should be higher. Though if Machado hadn't exhausted his rookie eligibility we would be in the top half.

In my points systems, the Orioles ranked 22nd, and would have been 12th or 14th (?) with Machado.

Well, there was that Cal guy in 1978. Since then, Arthur Rhodes in '88 was our top no. 2 pick, and then Reimold. Overall, only 37% of our no. 2 picks have made the majors, and only 3 (Ripken, Baylor and Rhodes) have been worth 5+ WAR.

I find it pretty amazing that the Orioles have only had three successful 2nd round picks in their history. Sure, Cal was a HoFer and Baylor was a multiple year all-star and eventual MVP, but it just seems year after year this organization has struck out in the second round.
