Pirates reach agreement with Russell Martin

Little surprised. I thought the Yankees would retain them. He had a nice second haaf for them last year after a pretty bad start. He did some damage against us.

The Yanks are sticking to staying under $189 million and it means letting players like Martin walk if the price is too high. I like the new CBA forcing the Yanks to be cheap and make hard choices like so many other clubs have had to do for so long.

Yeah, the luxury tax does seem to be having some effect.

This is going to hurt the Yankees. He did a good job for them and handled their pitchers well. If the White Sox don't resign Pierzynski he is the best choice for them. He knows the American League hitters.

The following article came out late in the season as AJ was finishing up his best season at the age of 35. Some teams may stay away from him. Will NY?

If they weren't willing to resign Martin,I highly doubt they'll go after AJ,especially with the steroid whispers. As for hurting the Yankees..he handled the pitchers well but his bat..yikes!

NY has Cervelli, Stewart and Romine (if he is healthy).

Pierzynski deserves the Most Hated Player in MLB Award. As Ozzie Guillen once said of him, "If you play against him, you hate him. If you play with him, you hate him a little less."

Martin had his moments offensively but losing him to Pittsburgh is not like losing a Bill Dickey or Yogi Berra.
