Mariners, O's Displaying Strong Interest In Butler

Agreed. Unloading the farm is not ideal. But - to get a MOO bat, the O's need to give up something to get it via trade.

DING DING

Everyone on this board thinks that we can get legit MOO bats with scrap heap players. Would you trade Butler if you had him for a combo of Britton/Arrieta/Matusz? NO!

No one suggest's trading every prospect. It's just other then Bundy, they don't have much. So right now, trading Bundy is basically trading the farm.

Basically. And there aren't many scenarios where I'd want to see them trade Bundy. For Giancarlo Stanton? Definitely. But that's about it.

Maybe a something like..

O's get: Chase Headley and Edison Volquez

Padres Get: Tillman, Hardy, Britton, Delmonico

then

O's get: Butler

Royals get: Arrieta, S. Johnson, and Strop.

Lineup

1. Markakis RF

2. McLouth LF

3. Jones CF

4. Butler DH

5. Headley 3B

6. Wieters C

7. Davis 1B

8. Machado SS

9. Roberts/Casilla

Rotation

Hammel

Chen

Volquez

Gonzalez

Saunders

That's a ton of our prospects.

There's no way the O's would ever do that. The only guy they would trade Bundy for is Stanton.

I would argue that Butler + Gordon is a better haul than Stanton. You get a plus defender in Left (GG winner this year), two ~.850 OPS guys, both with power and who know how to take a walk. Plus it fills two huge holes in our lineup.

I'm not willing to give up Tillman or Bundy for Butler, let alone Tillman and Schoop. Butler is a fine hitter but he's limited to DH and he doesn't put up MVP numbers like David Ortiz in his prime. I wouldn't give up a front line starter and a good position player prospect for that.

Butler has played half his games Kauffman stadium ... A pitchers park! Not at Fenway or Camden and its short LF porch

Stanton has more value to the O's because he'd be under team control for longer. Butler has only 2 years left on his deal and costs a lot more, and Gordon is expensive as hell as well.

Still would rather have Stanton. Stanton is going to give you serious superstar numbers CHEAP for years. Gordon is good and Butler is good but I'd rather have one great.

I got the impression from some of the earlier reports that DD was mulling over a proposal (pieces in place) to bring a power hitter to Baltimore. If these folks were asking for Bundy, I'd guess that we've moved on from that discussion and are looking at some other offer on the table now.

In what reality does that trade ever happen?

Not this one.

But when your owner refuses to spend money you may have to gut the team depth to improve, even marginally.

Peter Angelos is not why we aren't getting Hamilton. But keep living in your dream world.

And most people suggested those offer's would get the O's laughed at. I made that trade up looking through orange-colored glasses. That just show's how little we have to offer. No way is Arrieta, Matusz, Britton, or Johnson part of a championship team down the road, imo.
