The market for Bedard is shrinking (for the moment)

I'm 100% in agreement with all of this.

Volquez cushions the loss of Bailey or Cueto.

Hatteberg makes Votto expendable.

Cueto/Bailey, Votto, Stubbs + 1 is a very logical and reasonable framework.

And MacPhail likely didn't want Hamilton in the first place.

I don't see this Rangers deal pushing the Reds further from Bedard. I see it drawing them closer.

I kind of agree.....

But, on the other hand- Hamilton was a steep price to pay for that purpose.

From the Cincy perspective, I don't think so. Its just a case of the Reds looking for some young pitching and another team needing an outfielder which we happen to have plenty of right now. I'm very bummed out that Josh will be gone but the potential for both of these young pitchers sounds pretty decent. I think Josh will tear it up in Texas and hey, I can still root for him too. I hope he builds on what he did last year and has an outstanding season next year. I am happy that it looks like Jay Bruce has a CF job with the big club if he wants it next season though. Go Jay! :)

Just out of curiosity, is there any kind of consensus about Bedard on the Red boards?

Specifically, are the Reds still interested in dealing for him or does this move today spell the end of those talks?

I dont think this keeps the Reds from making a Bedard deal.I think it just makes it easier to include Bailey or Cueto in a deal.Volquez will not be flipped by the Reds.I just think WK made this deal to make it easier on him to deal one of there 2 young pitchers.I think if the Reds and O's do make a deal it will include Cueto,Votto, and 2 other minorleague players.

I say this because it makes a lot of sense if you look at it from a Reds stand point. They have Hatteberg to play first next season. Then the Reds are planning on signing Dunn to a long term deal.I say he sign to be a first baseman not a left fielder. So there is Vottos replacement. Then they just traded for Volquez to take Cuetos place as a young up and coming pitcher. So that takes care of those 2.Then say they add a Maloney and Stubbs to the deal. They can draft guys to replace those guys.If I had to say anything I think this opens up the Reds more to make a deal for Bedard.I can see a Reds and O's Bedard trade on the horizion, well I hope I can anyway.

Yea, i said the same thing....I think this could further move a Bedard deal along, not stop it.

Your proposal of Stubbs, Maloney, Cueto and Votto seems very fair to me and one that I would hope the Orioles would jump on and one that I doubt the Reds would hesitate to do.

Hamilton is an injury risk and a headcase risk(one i would have taken for a similar package though).

However, if you are the Reds, Hamilton is a luxury. You got him in a trade after he was taken in the rule 5 draft...You have Bruce to take his place.

The Reds fans are very interested in dealing for Bedard, but for the right price.I dont see the Reds giving up 3 MLB ready players for Bedard.I can see the Reds giving up 2 mlb ready players out of Bailey,Votto,Burton, and Encarcion(sp) and a couple minor leaguers. So if the Reds could get Bedard for say the going rate here Bailey,Votto,Stubbs, and another minor leaguer I say the Reds fans would be happy.Well I know I would anyway and I am a diehard Reds fan.

What do you think the chances of a Votto, Cueto and Encarnacion deal are?

Are the Reds still down on EE?

This isnt a big deal. Like many have said it just makes a Bedard trade more likely.

I just think AM is being to greedy. Take Baily/Cueto, Votto, and someone like Keppinger/ Stubbs. That is a great return.

Im just hoping it doesnt turn out like a Tejada. With the pitching we get back we can afford to get rid of Bedard.

Just pull the trigger. Im confident AM will get a deal done. Just have to be patient, thats my biggest problem.

I'd do that deal too...still big voids in CF and SS.

I agree.

I personally like Cueto, Bailey, and Maloney as pitching prospects more than Volquez. It is a puzzling deal. Why not just hold back Maloney ? If Bruce isn't ready yet, Hamilton would be a good fallback. Maybe their scouts really like Volquez. Dare I say- maybe they know something about Hamilton that scares them. ??

I would take Cueto, Votto, Maloney, Stubbs in a heatbeat.

Hopefully, Maloney and Stubbs are ticketed for Baltimore and not Volquez.

It is unrealistic to expect permanent solutions in 1 offseason.

Rome wasn't built in a day. :D

Stubbs can play CF and he might be ready in summer.

For SS- maybe Cedeno comes over in a Cubs deal.

Maybe we can work out a deal for a SS prospect who is MLB ready such as Hu or Aybar.

Man...I've been talking about Maloney for a while now!

Check out this guy's stats. He looks like he'd be about ready to step into our rotation by mid-season next year.
