Liriano to the Pirates

Another guy I was really hoping the Orioles would show some interest in. The Pirates got him for 2 years/$14 million. In this crazy baseball economy, that is a huge steal if you ask me. I would have loved to have seen Liriano in Orange & Black...especially for that price.

Pass. His ERA has been over 5.00 in three of the last four years. He's thrown enough innings to qualify exactly once in his career. He's never been the same pitcher since having surgery, despite occasional spurts of his old brilliance.

For the life of me...I can't understand how anyone could look at Liriano's numbers, as opposed to remembering fondly those long-ago days when Liriano was actually good, and react to what he/she had seen by saying "I was really hoping the Orioles would show some interest in [him]."

Agreed. Plus a WHIP of almost 1.5. It was only a good deal for Liriano, not the Pirates. He's done.

Post-Tommy John Liriano has been a lot like Daniel Cabrera 2004-2008.

I'm sure he'll impress Pittsburgh with some dominant outings over good lineups, usually only to come back next week with a charming evening of 8 BB/6 ER/4 IP against the Astros.

Agree with the others. This is an outrageous contract for someone who just hasn't been the same since coming back from injury. That said, I would have much rather taken a chance on Soriano than shell out a multi-deal contract to Edwin Jackson. Edwin is the antichrist of starting pitchers.
