Athletes are supposed to be manly men. Gay men are not supposed to be manly men (though I'm sure some of my friends could break my doughy 6'4" body in two if they wanted) so there you go.

As far as I know, Gareth Thomas (rugby) was the first male pro to come out while still playing and I'd hope no one doubted his manliness, to his face anyway. I would have liked to see that though. Real Sports had him on a while back.

He's being honest but with all due respect,as someone who has gay relatives and friends,the arguments Tori puts forth get old in a hurry,especially since in many cases they have played alongside men who have cheated on their wives,gotten tattoos,play games on sunday etc with nary a peep.

Did basketball player Jon Amaechi become openly gay while still playing? Back to Torii Hunter... Is it possible that he realized the kind of backlash this would get, so he pulled the 'I was misquoted' line... Personally, I think that's probably the case.

Yeah that argument is complete BS. Everyone in every locker room does things on a regular basis that the Bible teaches against. It's a way to pardon their prejudice.

I was coming to this thread to say just that. Pretty terrible. Someone like him shouldn't bring up faith at all, as it's just another one in a looooooooooonnnng line of people of said faith to reflect upon it poorly.

As for "feeling uncomfortable". I don't think there is anything wrong with that comment at all. I think if you're a man that is attracted to girls, and a guy is with you 180 days a year for 12 hours a day who may or may not find you attractive, that can be a little uncomfortable... just because it's still not an emotion or circumstance we're used to yet. The kids being born today will probably never bat an eye over something like that, which is a good thing... but we're not there yet.

No, Amaechi was retired (or at least out of the NBA).

To my knowledge there has not been an openly gay active player from the Big 4 yet.
