LaRoche has been telling friends today he would accept the deal. He was backed into a corner by the draft-pick compensation issue.

Presumably, the Nationals will at least follow up on their conversations with other teams about Mike Morse.

I'm disappointed the O's couldn't have bagged LaRoche for two years. Front office is overvaluing that draft pick, in my opinion. It's all moot now, but I'll be tracking LaRoche the next two years (yes, I know that stats are not necessarily portable, but still...) and then see the progression of whomever we draft with that pick.

I was against keeping Reynolds, primarily because I thought a better solution existed out in the market. Now that move seems a bit short-sighted. Davis at first isn't awful, but it's less than desirable. Maybe this is how we progress and it works. Maybe not.

And if not, isn't a trade involving one of The Cavalry now pretty much necessitated?

Morse for Patton. Let's get it done.

Makes a lot of sense. It'll be interesting to see how quickly a Morse deal happens with any team. You have to think that the Nats have laid groundwork for a potential Morse deal while waiting for LaRoche to sign.

Its going to take more than Patton. The Mariners are probably in. Tampa maybe also. And Boston. Maybe a reason that its taking so long to complete the Napoli deal is that after they saw the MRI, the Red Sox want to see what it takes to get Morse.

Most of those teams could be interested, but I'm not sure that Seattle makes sense now that they have several 1B/DH types.

I wouldn't trade much more then Patton.

Fantastic. Now that LaRoche is done, we can wait with baited breath for Morse to be traded somewhere.

In other Orioles related news.....(crickets chirp...crickets chirp)

Your breath is always "baited" but others might be "bated", just sayin' (see below bro). Debbie Downers unite! MOO bats???? TOR signees????

In other news:

it's = it is

its = possessive

ashamed = sensitive to criticism

a shame = tsk tsk

    • I don't think the Japanese dude wants to sign a contract in our major leagues to be an optional right-handed reliever.  Pretty sure he thinks he's better than that, otherwise, what's the point in coming over here.  Plus, I would think he wants more money than you might pay for an optional right-handed reliever, no?
    • The Marlins are not trading a guy who would be a highly sought after guy for a top 75 prospect, a one year expensive (for them) rental player and essentially a throw in vet in Urias.  That’s laughable.    Even if the Marlins really value the bat of Santander, that trade would get blown away by many other teams.
    • Hopefully Ohtani ends up in the NL. How crazy would this be if he didn’t get injured?
    • Love Hyde. It hasn’t eased for me either. Bradish and Grayson got much needed exposure to the playoffs. Looking back on the juggernaut that Bradish faced… was that actually a “good” playoff start?  Grayson has all the humbling fuel to have a big offseason and learn to become a true #1.
    • A Kimbrel signing would tell me that we’re out on Luzardo, and Cease. Wells as a SP. Why give up one of Westburg, Holliday, Mayo, Basallo, Cowser, or Kjerstad? I wouldn’t doubt if Santander, Urias, and Ortiz, was our actual best offer. Kimbrel as closer puts us where we were at the end of September. Wells should be able to build upon his really strong 1st half by able to go another 30-50 IP as a strong SP. I’d feel comfortable if we added Robertson too. The time to get aggressive is at the deadline. I doubt Elias and Co. chose Flaherty over Montgomery. Seems like his hands were tied over Montgomery costing more money the rest of the way. $4 million ish. Elias just knows what to expect this deadline and to leave himself some wiggle room.
    • They need to add the ability to trade picks other than the awarded comp picks.
    • IMO Bradish, Grayson, Means, Kremer, Wells Kimbrel, Cano, Webb, Baumann, Baker Coloumbe, Perez, Irvin AAA - Hall, Tate, Zimmerman, Akin It makes a lot of sense. We could bring in the Japanese reliever to have optionable depth on the RH side. We could sign Robertson. We wouldn’t have to trade a big piece for Luzardo/Cease.
