Why wouldn't you like it??? Obviously their owner doesn't care about spending money or making trades. Went and got Gio last year. Signed Werth, then Haren, now this! I'd be estatic.

Yea. Not that it's trivial to do this, but the O's had five guys post very similar numbers to Soriano last year, and I'm not sure they made $14M combined.

Yeah, while that seems like a crazy amount to spend on a reliever that likely won't be their closer, their overall payroll seems to be in pretty decent shape - in spite of sharp criticisms they've taken over the past 2 years. And they're like... really talented.

Yeah, I guess this makes sense. I just don't see him as being worth that much and a first rounder. Especially to a team that probably did not have that much of a need for him in the first place. Even if they do deal someone, which I assume is in the works, that much cash and a pick for Soriano is surprising...to me at least.

I mean, I know their season ended with a bullpen meltdown, but this signing is just weird to me. But if this signing makes them feel secure, more power to them.
