Latest Roch ...

The final word from Roch is that there is no final word ... this off-season is a long way from being over, despite all of the panicking on this board.

However, the reality is that the Orioles don't know who's playing shortstop, who's starting in center field, who's closing, who's setting up, who's filling out the rotation. Manager Dave Trembley mentioned Luis Hernandez as a possibility if another shortstop isn't acquired, or a combination of Brandon Fahey and Freddie Bynum. He could always shift Jay Payton to center if the veteran isn't dealt. Or hand the job to Tike Redman and watch him break back 20 feet on a ball fouled behind the plate.

Not exactly what we were anticipating, but it's still relatively early. Andy MacPhail hasn't closed up shop for good. Keep telling yourself that while you're opening your gifts.

Hope you all enjoy your Christmas and New Year ... see you after the New Year to celebrate the moves we will make.;)

Don't worry, it means nothing...Even if DT says it, he is obviously lying..Just ask VaTech.

I've been told by a source that if a shortstop is not acquired, the Orioles will go with Hernandez at short. They know he won't hit, but they think his glove is special.

Personally, I'm hoping we acquiring someone...

Even more confirmation of the terror that is LH as a starting ML SS.

Hopefully it won't take too long for Trembley to find out that his glove isn't all that much more special than his bat.

Note: I hope this doesn't turn into the usual 13 page LH discussion, not my intention.

Hell, I didn't need Trembley, Roch or a source to figure this out :D

He might suck, but outside of a trade he is really the best option. And no, that isn't a good thing.

I think Fahey is a better option personally.

I think even Moore has some experience at SS...He should probably be playing SS somewhere right now to see if he can handle it.

I would probably go (in order I would want them to be the starting SS):

Bynum

Fahey

Mora

Moore

LH

Why we didn't take a flyer on Alexei Ramirez, I have no idea. I really hope it isn't due to PA's agreement with Castro. The guy is only 26 and wants to play SS, and was pretty good for Cuba. He signed a 4 year deal for only 4.75 million with incentives. That's a pretty low risk deal and I would have rather seen somebody like him than Luis Hernandez or Brandon Fahey. At least this guy has shown he can hit.

The Orioles trying to sign guys like that would be akin to fighting the war in Iraq with Civil War weapons.

No chance.

Why not, we could have been in the race. All the smart organizations were. He worked out for the Red Sox, Indians, Reds, Cubs, Mets, Yankees, Twins, and A's too. There is absolutely no good reason why we shouldn't have a least given him a look. MacPhail has said he wants to improve international scouting, well he sure missed a golden opportunity here.

I'd like somebody to ask him why with a gaping hole at SS, we didn't even take a look at the guy.
