Mariners still alive in Bedard hunt

Have the Angels been seriously considered? Is the package Greg proposed (SS-3B Wood, RHSP Adenhart, RHSP Walden) good enough tho get Bedard?

I would think the Angels package would have to start with Weaver, Wood and Adenhart and wouldn't be surprised to see Willits in there for CF now that he has no place to play. Sonny mentioned a Bedard trade would need a CFer and a SS in there, so that's the package I think we'd be after.

The Mariners offer the best player(Jones) and the best depth in a package IMO.

The Reds offer the best pitcher.

The real key to the Mariners package is can Clement be flipped, say for Brignac?

If he can, then the scale really tips in their favor.

If he can't, that makes things a lot closer.

I'll agree with that - if Clement could be flipped for Brignac, I'd take the Mariners trade. But that's a big if.

The Mets could definitely use Bedard. They are in desperate need of pitching.

How about this?

Bedard, Reimold, and Hoey for Martinez, Gomez, Pelfry, Humber, and another prospect. This will give the Mets a starter and reliever they can plug into their lineup immediately. It also give them a "replacement" for one of their lost outfielders for depth in the minors.

If Martinez is in it, it is a lot better.

Problem I have with the Mets is that they lack that true second player since they dealt Milledge.

This is true, but the Mets have multiple guys who could emerge as that quality second player from among Humber/Pelfrey and the rest.

The one thing I like about the Mets is that Minaya is not afraid to overpay in prospects.

I don't know. I don't think the Rangers are a good option if Hamilton is a must. It sounds like they aren't planning on including him in any deal since they just hired Johnny Narron to continue mentoring him:

I was curious about whether they would add Narron. Well, this seals the deal for me; no Hamilton. Great info, thanks a lot.

And this is also true....We could end up looking back and saying this was the deal to take....Could definitely go either way.

This is the one reason I come back to the Mets....This team, more than any other one, is built to win now and with the way their season ended, youth movements and things like that aren't on their radar. They need to do something with that pitching staff and we may be able to take advantage of that.

    • Imagine having the thought that a baseball team like this could be dead so early in the season when they’re on pace to win as many games as they did last year.
    • @Moose Milligan as a long time vet of this board, you gotta know that the better the Orioles get and the more relevant that they become, we are going to have people show up on this board who are either a) trolls b) bandwagon fans c) not that knowledgeable  I’ve noticed more and more people showing up and saying crazy things that don’t make sense. I guess it comes with the territory of having a great team.
    • Was it the same person who said this team was dead?
    • I’m dead serious. That’s one regular (who starter last week) and it was to be expected that he would struggle like almost all young guys do when they make the jump to the Majors.  Hays doesn’t play everyday and was just playing yesterday to give Santander a rest. Yes Santander is struggling, so by my count that makes 2 guys struggling who are getting everyday ABs. And even if you go by the TWO that played yesterday, I have a hard time coming up with a figure that adds up to several.  Unless, your math or understanding of the English language is different than mine. I don’t see TWO as equating to several guys, as you stated.
    • Someone said the other day he’s just another guy and should be cut.
    • Outside of Cowser, he’s the biggest surprise of the season so far for me.
    • It’s interesting to compare the careers of McFarland and Danny Coulombe.  TJ debuted in 2013 and is 35; Danny debuted in 2014 and is 34.   TJ has appeared in 362 big league games, throwing 480.1 innings at a 4.16 ERA (101 ERA+), and has been worth -0.1 rWAR; Danny has appeared in 262 games, throwing 250.1 IP aa 3.63 ERA (114 ERA+) and has been worth  3.1 rWAR.   Going into this season, TJ had accrued 8.028 years of service and had been paid $10.5 mm; Danny had accrued 5.008 years and had been paid $5.2 mm.  So I’d say at this point that McFatland has spent more time and bern used more heavily in the majors than Coulombe, and has been better paid, even though Coulombe has been more effective.
