Depth is nice, but lets not forget quantity does not necessarily equal quality.
It doesn't have to. Unless you think none of the of our 12 SP candidates has any potential. The only team in the AL East whose SP is clearly superior is TB's .The others have as many question marks and less depth IMO.

The Yankees is clearly superior, IMHO.

Kuroda, Pettitte, Sabathia, Phelps is a very, very solid 1-4.

Toronto's is arguably better as well:

R.A. Dickey

Josh Johnson

Mark Buehrle

Brandon Morrow

Ricky Romero

That is strong, man.

I can see your argument in regards to TOR having great pitching, but the Yankees have a ton of question marks. They can not rely on Pettitte starting for a full season. Kuroda will be in his second season in the AL East, and hitters will have an understanding of his stuff. Phelps is being converted from the bullpen which is always a risk.

Hammel will be in his second season in the AL East, so will Chen, so will <name almost every Oriole starter>. Bottomline is Kuroda is better than them all. He has consistently proven it, Pettite has proven it, and so has Sabathia. I'd gladly take that three over ours even with their age.

Here is a guess. Kuroda is no longer great . Pettite can't pitch after HGH testing, and C.C. is injured for real and for good. Then what?

CC's IP and GS have declined over that past few years and he has thrown a lot of pitches for 31. Kuroda isn't getting any younger and Petite is ancient, Phelps looked good for 99 IP why should I have more confidence in him or Hughes than I do in Gonzalez and Tillman. After Nova what do they have for depth? I still like CC and Kuroda, the others don't instill that much confidence for me. As to TOR I like Dickey, have big questions about Johnson's health, Buehrle's age, and Morrow's and Romero's command and consistency.

I'd take CC, you can keep all the rest of the MFY pitchers. I'm not impressed.

The Jays do have some question marks in their rotation. But Mark Buerhle isn't one of them. 12 straight years of 30+ starts and 200+ innings. Not sure why age is a concern either. He's only 33 and has never relied on stuff to be successful.
