Jurrjens Silence is Deafening (Deal in doubt?)

The Jays do have some question marks in their rotation. But Mark Buerhle isn't one of them. 12 straight years of 30+ starts and 200+ innings. Not sure why age is a concern either. He's only 33 and has never relied on stuff to be successful.

But now his family, and his dog, are not with him.

Being without your dog puts a strain on a man.

Hammel will be in his second season in the AL East, so will Chen, so will <name almost every Oriole starter>. Bottomline is Kuroda is better than them all. He has consistently proven it, Pettite has proven it, and so has Sabathia. I'd gladly take that three over ours even with their age.

Yes... but he's turning 39 this summer. For comparisons sake, we're starting to see the end of Halladay and he's only 35...

Depth is nice, but lets not forget quantity does not necessarily equal quality.
It doesn't have to. Unless you think none of the of our 12 SP candidates has any potential. The only team in the AL East whose SP is clearly superior is TB's .The others have as many question marks and less depth IMO.
Bingo. Our depth isn't exactly strong depth. It'd be infinitely better if Bundy and Gausman were absolutely ready, but that's not a sure fire thing.

There's a lot of risk in our rotation, but a lot of upside potential, too. I'm going on record that our starting rotation (4.42 ERA last year) will have a sub-4.00 ERA in 2013.

I see that too. They should be significantly under 4.00. And that is with Britton at 4.74 ERA and Hammel regression because he does not do well in the 2nd half.

I don't know what our numbers are going to be but I'm on record that we allow at least 20 fewer ER.

Is JJ signed? I want to print the playoff tickets:)

There are a ton of tech-smart, bored 20-year-old guys on this forum. Somebody needs to write an app that lets you drag-and-drop a photo, and it spits out a printable fake playoff ticket with the O's logo and the picture on it, maybe even a little caption that says "Game 1 starter". We need to automate the Print the Playoff Tickets for Every Waiver Wire Acquistion meme.

Tell me that wouldn't spawn a 87-page thread of glory.

Based on the Mid Atlantic Sports Report yesterday it sounds like the team found some pretty significant issues in their examination. May not happen.

I'd say bone on bone in a pitchers knee if probably significant enough to make the deal fall through. As somebody said earlier, for the Braves to jettison a pitcher, there had to be serious doubts about him to begin with.
