Honest and forthright, unlike when Johnny Damon said that he "always wanted to be a Tiger" after signing with them in 2010.

He probably would have been better off saying nothing at all, but at least it isn't the usual cliched company line.

They are hired guns when you get to the stage he's at in a career. Anyone else is deluded no matter what he might say to make the fans feel better. He doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who gives a rip what people think.

He's right, it was a pretty stupid comment. For the record, he's been a member of the Red Sox, White Sox, and Yankees.

Stupid. He should have just acknowledged how great his time with Boston was and how now he's excited to be a part of the rich Yankee tradition. Then, after retiring, declare fealty to the Red Sox. Shooting himself in the foot.
