How much is Boston paying Koji and why didn't we pick him up this year? I realize there are several threads that have touched on this topic, but was there a definitive answer that emerged from those?

From COTS:

  • 1 year/$4.25M (2013), plus 2014 vesting option
    • signed by Boston as a free agent 12/6/12
    • 13:$4.25M, 14:$4.25M vesting option (guaranteed with 55 games in 2013)
    • performance bonuses: $0.125M each for 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50 games finished

They paid a fair price for him.

One that, without the benefit of hindsight, would not have been smart for the O's to match.

I think based on the performance of these guys last year, they looked pretty solid, and wasn't in need of Koji, and nothing against Koji.

But, again, he surfers from the perception in OH that anybody on another team is better than what we have. :)

Pretty sure you have no idea when Boston made an offer. I guess the O's could have signed him before he was even officially a free agent but they consider that tampering.

Considering it was the start of Dec, they really didn't wait around too long. The O's may have had a shot if the price had dropped into the start of the year.

As much as I despise Boston, I must admit that I'm enjoying watching them take it to the Skanks tonight. Seemingly on the ropes, only to score 7 runs in two inning's time. The deflated looks on the NY fans' faces has made the entire cost of this year's MLB.TV package worth it. :laughlol:
