The Tides are now 6-5.

Yep, since the 1-4 start, the Tides are now 5-1 since. They're going to be OK. It would be nice to see Schoop doing more though. He has now played 10 games, is batting .147 and has an OPS of .492. Still a bit early to panic... but these numbers aren't just a little low, they're abysmal.

But we ARE getting really solid contributions from Trayvon Robinson and Russ Canzler.Next up is an 11 game road stretch. 4 against Gwinnett, 3 against Durham, and then 4 against Charlotte. I think we're going to know a lot more about this team after this.

And if Schoop hasn't put it together by then (will be 22 games through), it might be time to put him back in Bowie... which is where he frankly should have been to start the season IMO.

With tonight's win over Syracuse, combined with Durham's loss to Pawtucket, the Tides now have sole possession of 1st place in the International League-South division for the first time since July 23rd, 2009.

That season (2009), the Tides started the season running away with the International League with a record of 35-13 in their first 48 games before the promotions of most of their stars (Matt Wieters, Nolan Reimold, Brad Bergesen, Jason Berken, Chris Tillman, David Hernandez, etc.) to the Orioles, at which point the Tides fell all the way down to .500 (71-71) by season's end.

Schoop had a double in extra innings, but Hoes and Exposito couldn't get him home. Game is still tied 5-5.

Observation: Navarro has made 2 bad plays at 2b, probably why Flaherty is still up.

Notable performances for the Tides as of today, this year:

- Jason Pridie of all people is leading the team in OPS with a .908 in 124 AB. He has 6 HRs, 71 total bases and is errorless in CF so far.

- Yamaico Navarro is being extremely disciplined at the plate, going .317/.405/.462 in 104 AB for a second-best .866 OPS and 3 SB to boot. Speaking of booting, he also has 5 errors so far this season, tied for worst on the club.

- Russ Canzler is doing his thing, with 5 HRs, a .394 OBP and a third-best .858 OPS. He continues to be a viable call-up option.

Danny Valencia, Travis Ishikawa and L.J. Hoes are also having a nice start to the season.

- We've already seen the Freddy Garcia call-up after going 4-0 with a 2.67 ERA and 0.98 WHIP. He has too much veteranosity for AAA.

- Jair Jurrjens is putting it together after a horrible spring and you've got to figure he'll get a shot at the rotation at some point this season. He is 4-1 and leading the team in IP (44.2 in 7 starts, over 6 IP a start) with a 2.62 ERA and 1.16 WHIP.

- Who is Jairo Asencio? 'Cause he leads the team in game appearances (13) with a 1.93 ERA and a miniscule 0.57 WHIP.

Alex Burnett, Daniel Schlereth, and Josh Stinson are also doing well for the team.
