I know not everyone is a big Jim Hunter fan...

Liked his enthusiasm. I probably liked the moment more than the call, but enjoyed how super happy he sounded when it happened.

I like happy people. It was a happy night.

Well, nobody can ever criticize Jim Hunter for a lack of enthusiasm when things go well for the Orioles.

Contrast the Royals' announcer when Gordon's home run tied the game: http://kansascity.royals.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=26923517&topic_id=8878722&c_id=kc

I hate to pile on here, but he is over the top. As some have posted, with his voice he could be a very good play by play man. Possibly could have had the career of a Josh Lewin. The problem is, he HAS to play the role of color man all the time, chiming in with his opinion (a lot of the time based only in homer reality) of how the game should be played or what a game or at bat means to the team. The best example of this are his interviews. Pay attention next time, all of the questions are set up the same way. He goes off on a 30 second rant about any cliche baseball narrative and the question is almost always....."Don't you agree?". Leaving no way to respectfully disagree with him. It's funny to watch.

One last note, my wife can always tell if the O's won or lost by how Hunter is acting in the post game show. She'll take one look on his sad face and say "Ahh, they lost tonight didn't they?"

He Gawn!

One of the most aggravating calls in all of pro sports--it really makes me question the judgement of the entire WSox franchise and fan base that they put up with it.

I don't mind Hunter on occasion. His excitement makes up for the dullness that is Mike Bordick.

I realize that Bordick is new to the broadcast booth, but he brings very little to a broadcast, in my opinion. He has simply become a "yes man."

Mike Bordick's voice is the equivalent of watching someone watch paint dry. Brutal

He's an idiot homer. All he does is run on and on about how great every O's player is who is AB, or who is pitching. As he reels off an endless string of mind numbing stats, all he is doing is begging the baseball gods to punish us for his hubris. I would rather listen to Dempsey and I can't stand Dempsey.

Thats quite harsh on Hunter to call him an idiot. That's over the top.

Living in Upstate New York, I have to endure John Sterling and Susan Waldman calling stupid Yankeee games. Enough said.

This, exactly. In Connecticut, my only option for listening to the Orioles on the radio is when they play the Yanks and I can listen to Sterling and Waldman on WCBS. People complaining about Hunter (or Manfra) really need to count their blessings, methinks.

This I agree with. Manfra takes too long to call a routine play.

This is completely true, you can hear a batted ball and he's describing the pitcher getting the sign. Another thing about Manfra I'm no fan of is his long ball recognition, it's downright awful. He makes me think someone has hit a home run when they haven't once a game.

Ever since Gary Thorne effused praise on Obama for his pick of Sonia Sotomayer for the Supreme Court back in 2009, I have never enjoyed his broadcasts. An announcer's political views have no place in a broadcast of baseball. Just talk about the GAME, I'm watching baseball to enjoy and relax. Obviously didn't help that I don't agree with his politics.

Yes, it's four years ago, but the impression lasts. That's why they say, politics and religion.....

I'll still take Hunter over the Nats' Bob Carpenter and Santangelo/Dibble/Sutton(whoever else they've had.. I think someone already said it here but Carpenter whines about umps and calls that go against the Nats way too much.

Hunter, while he is perhaps a little too homeristic for my tastes is more professional than that. The worst is Harrelson though. Nothing more lame than referring to your team as the "good guys" and the opponents as the "bad guys." I don't mind homerism in a hometown broadcaster- I expect it but I also expect professionalism and level-headed observations hence why Jim Palmer is my favorite guy on the TV side and Joe Angel is my favorite guy on the radio. Thorne has a good PBP voice. He can be a little wacky and make some mistakes but I like him as a PBP guy. Of course, I wish we still had

Jon Miller doing games. Can you imagine him and Palmer together?

    • I want to see how the league adjusts to him after another 2-3 starts before I start calling him a #3. There isn’t much reference material on him after his adjustments over spring.    What’s also important are the adjustments he makes back. Still, he looks solid!
    • I touched on this topic in another thread.  Players are paid bi-monthly and per game. $740K/162 games is league minimum or $4,568 per game.  This would have been his 2nd game.  So $9,136 in MLB salary.  That is likely as much as 1/4 of the Annual AAA income for players who have not yet signed a MLB contract.  AAA is $1200 a week and we are less than a month into the season and Spring training doesn't pay the same. Here is the year changing money...  He nearly doubled his salary last week with his 1st 1 day contract. For players on their first MLB contract, their minor league minimum salaries are: (this would have been when he was signed for 1 day and got 1AB) 2024: $60,300; And he doubled (or nearly quadrupled his salary in 1 week) So A player who is signing a second major league contract is guaranteed the following minimum salaries in the minor leagues: 2024: $120,600; This salary with the O's AAA team is contingent on him passing thru waivers again and accepting the assignment back to the AAA roster. I don't know how that $120,600 is paid thru the year but the MILB season is roughly 22 weeks long.  This would mean he went from $1200 a week to $5,480.  An increase of 457% While we, as fans, question why the O's keep doing this... to D.B. I imagine he didn't expect this to be an option when he signed a MiLB contract for the O's.  He is officially an 2X MLB contract and he has officially been on an MLB roster with a MLB at bat.  There aren't too many people in this world that can say that... no matter the reason for it. I imagine that D.B. may not be happy to be on the 'taxi squad' and not playing but earning $5,500 a week plus per diem, etc is one way to stay a little more content.
    • Hays has a spot because of his defense (not great but it’s solid enough) but yea, this is why trades could happen.    The Os have valuable guys and clear pitching needs in a year where you are trying to win it all. You have to address those needs and the Os have proven and yet to be established positional talent that they should use to address those pitching needs.
    • Kjerstad spent some time at the Holliday Compound this offseason, so hey, maybe it'll be a boost for the kid having another one of his buddies up here.
    • It was the only move to make imo. I get the whole best roster fit thing but his OPs is almost 1200! in AAA and it’s not like he was hot garbage in the majors last year.    You had to get the bat here.
    • If Cowser and Kjerstad can both hit lefties decently and with power, Hays is really in some jeopardy at that point.
