What is the matter with you people?

I avoid game threads. I like to watch a game on TV and hear the play by play. I wouldn't find any entertainment in trying to watch the game while trying to read hundreds of posts by managerial wannabees and guys who think they should be the GM. I just don't need the headache.

Besides, I wouldn't want to be the straw that crashes the server's back.

It's actually not hundreds of posts. For me, it is just a way to experience the game with some friends. I don't care for the managerial wannabe stuff, and especially not the people who simply come to troll. It's fun when we win. And the server gets stressed for other reasons. Not a couple hundred people on at once. Heck, this board can handle 1200 users at a time.

Peavy is a great fit. I just wonder what he would cost us in trade.

Great question. He is signed to a reasonable deal through 2014 with an option in 2015. He is not a rental and I would imagine a few teams would be interested if he were available. Not sure if we could swing a deal for him that would not include Bundy or Gaussman.

Maybe if they were willing to give up say Schoop, Matusz and say Eduardo Rodriguez and some other mid level prospect. He wont be cheap I imagine..

Since Peavy has come up would anyone take a flier on Tim Lincecum as FA this offseason?

The guy was lights out as Peavy was at one time. Different scenarios but still the guy is talented and might be good buy if he can be turned around.

Last year the Orioles has a team offensive WAR of 12.8 (24th) pitching WAR of 15.9 (14th) Fielding -4.7 (27th) . Not one of those categories indicates this team should have sniffed the playoffs and yet they did. By comparison the Rays were 21.1 hitting 21.7 pitching, 3.4 fielding and sat at home watching the playoffs.

Point is the stats are all great but the game is played on the field. I do not need WAR to tell me that offensively Reynolds is one heck of a lot better a player than Reimold, Valencia, Pearce, Dickinson etc. Somethings cannot be statistically quantified if everything could be then we would have been watching the Rays and about 7 other AL teams in the playoffs based on WAR instead of the O's

Its fine to ignore stats if you want. I am guessing our FO didn't. I am guessing the discussion was can we replace Reynolds hitting with a healthy Reimold, Roberts, and a full year of McLouth. Further can you do it for less than $6mm a year.

For the record. I thought they should re-sign him. But I can certainly understand the argument for not if you really believed in Reimold, Roberts and McLouth.

By the deadline he won't be owed 13.5 M, I don't put much stock in anyone's numbers at this point in the season, especially a guy with a career ave. 120 OPS+ and a 129 last year, and even if he is only .OPSing .600 that's an upgrade over the .518 we're getting out of the DH now. :rolleyestf:

Yes, let's roll our eyes and be all bitter and sarcastic over the idea that a 37-year-old might be in collapse. His K rate has spiked, and it looks like all he's doing is hitting routine flyballs (FB rate at a career high, but HR/FB rate is less than half his career number).

Like I said, I don't want him unless he comes on strong... but I guess you'd rather have him in any case. I think I'd rather have Thome.

Would he agree to a contract befitting a pitcher with a 4.00-ish FIP, translated to the AL East (maybe 4.50 FIP)? He might be interesting on a 2/15 kind of deal with incentives.

Kinda what I was thinking also.

Could be an interesting guy with some upside to look at. On the other hand some moronic franchise will prob offer 3/36-45 or something goofy like that. He just popped into my head when we were talking bout Peavy

You know what. I'm still sick about last night, but you bring up the most crucial point. Last year, in the playoffs, we lost in the most heartbreaking of heartbreaking fashions, with that ridiculous Raul Ibanez multi hr performance. We came back the next night AND WON. I realize this is a 6 game losing streak, and not one game- but the feelings of finality were just as intense. JJ had been shaky as well. Hopefully Miguel will come back tonight and continue his mastery of the Yankees.

Either way, I'm kinda glad I won't be watching, as I'll be at the Dancing with the Stars finale, rooting on Jacoby (and working)! I'm sure my phone will be out w/ Gamecast tho!

Being told there's something "wrong" with being upset about the losing.

You are a king of the strawman. Everyone here was upset they lost. Nothing wrong with that.

What's wrong is the folks who pop in when something goes wrong to let everyone know how they saw it coming and obviously would have done everything differently.

The matter?

Losing games we had no business losing.

No action being taken to remedy the situation.

Being told there's something "wrong" with being upset about the losing.

MSK

It's ok to be upset about the losing. I am upset about losing. But 3 games has erased 2012 and the first 14 saves of this year for some people. Hardly seems rational.

Additionally, my guess is that we have won a game or two we had no business winning too.

    • Mountcastle being back to pick up for O'Hearn if he can't shake his first slump of an amazing season is a big plus. But I'm worried that the days off can just as well have the opposite effect--I still remember the juggernaut Rockies team of 2007 getting swept after they waited around for the AL championship to be decided. Or last season's 111-51 Dodgers team losing to the over-performing Padres (final regular season Dodgers game: Oct. 5th, first playoff game: Oct. 11th). I wonder what regimen LA will follow this season.
    • The Oriole braintrust and coaches have done such a wonderful job, I hope they have some secret to keeping the team ready for the postseason battles despite the bye week off. Dodgers and Braves must have also figured out a plan.
    • If any combination of Irvin, Flaherty, Fuji, Baumann with the locks of Gibson, Webb, Wells, Hall, Coulombe, Cano, Perez are all in the bullpen im not sure we need 13 pitchers.    Is 3 long men really needed(Gibson/Irvin/Flaherty) with days off? Hall/Wells can go more than 1. No doubt Kremer would be the one who could turn it up out of the BP opposed to Gibson BUT if Kremer can give you a start of 5 good innings as a 4th starter thats hard to pass on. -- Hyde wants to play matchups like crazy of late so i do think they'll take 13. O's love close games, old extra inning rules could be a factor in need for more length.
    • Mullins too.  Seems like only Adley has been fairly hot lately.  Hopefully Mountcastle's double tonight will get things going for everyone else.  Fingers crossed the several days off they'll get next week will help reenergize things.
    • I got through the gate at 5, was in line 4:45ish? And got a hoodie. It was pretty packed. Think some people just went for the hoodie though and then left early.    it was a different vibe at the ballpark, totally full, but people were just chilling and having fun, not really paying attention to the game, since the game itself didn’t mean much
    • Happy that the Mariners are done.
    • Bradish game 1 starter, Rodrigues game 2, Gibson game 3, Means game 4, all on short leashes with Kremer, Wells, Baumann, Webb, Hall, Coulombe, Cano and Perez in the pen....Henderson, Rutschman, Santander, Mountcastle, O'Hearn, Hays, Mullins, Westburg, Urias, Frazier, Hicks, McKenna, Mateo, McCann
