Chien-Ming Wang

Per Joel Sherman in the NY Post, Wang's representatives have told the Yankees that the veteran won't exercise his opt-out clause unless he is able to secure a major league deal elsewhere. Sherman spoke to some MLB execs who said it is unlikely Wang would receive a deal from another team.

In other words he would rather stay in the Yankees minor league system? Kind of strange.

Wang is staying put in Scranton. He had interest from a number of teams but all were MiL offers; offers he's not interested in. Apparently he's good but not MLB good; not one team considered him worthy of a shot on their roster. He can opt out again at the end of June.

Definitely. Especially since signing a minor league deal with the O's or a team like them would almost guarantee him a look with the MLB team. This guy's got to have a little success in the MLB first before anyone signs him to the bigger payday of a major league contract. No one's going to give him a major deal without him proving himself.

.

If the Blue Jays don't climb back into the A.L. East race, then Wang will only hurt us in the games that he pitches against us (IF he pitches well in said games.) Otherwise, he will be helping us in all of the games that he pitches against the Red Sox, the Yankees, and the Rays (IF he pitches well against them.)

Of all the other teams in our division (besides us) that he could have signed with, the Blue Jays are the the least of the 4 evils at the moment.
