He's about 37,000 votes behind Hunter, who has a grand total of 2 home runs on the year. Nick has had a much better season. Obviously that's not what determines All-Stars, but with Hardy overtaking Andrus at SS, let's try to make it 4 starting O's. A well-mobilized site like the Hangout is capable of making up the difference.

OUTFIELD

Adam Jones, Orioles 1,944,450

Mike Trout, Angels 1,939,486

Torii Hunter, Tigers 1,067,973

Nick Markakis, Orioles 1,030,653

Jose Bautista, Blue Jays 1,021,813

Nelson Cruz, Rangers 1,011,198

Nate McLouth, Orioles 918,359

Yeah, I never like it when fans for certain teams stuff the ballot boxes and you end up with undeserving All-Star starters. There's a strange kind of narcissism to it. I watch the Orioles almost every day. Why would I want or need to see all the same players in the All-Star game, especially when most of are not deserving?

Markakis has no business in the All-Star game this year. He's been my favorite player on the Orioles for the last seven years, but I would only want to see him in the All-Star Game in a year where his performance merits it.

I agree. But there's been a couple years where he's deserved it, but because of lack of support, didnt get the nod. It's only fair to even things out for the guy :)

Actually the only year where I felt he deserved to be in the ASG was in 2010 when the Orioles were horrible and Ty Wigginton was selected. In Nick's best years, he tended to be stronger in the second half. But anyway, as a corner outfielder who doesn't hit for much power, I'd argue the only years where he finished the season as a no-doubt All Star were 2007 and 2008. Since then he's basically been a slightly above average outfielder, not an All-Star. And that's what he is this year, too.
