Travis Ishikawa called up

Except for the fact that Chris has earned a spot playing the field and he's made it clear that's what he wants to do. Even though I see Davis as a "team guy", I could also see him getting a touch perturbed if he's DHed more than a blip here and there.

Yep. Davis argued his skills declined at first because because he wasn't playing regularly. Assuming Ishikawa is the guy that's kept longer term I only see him getting spot starts at first.

I'm excited but puzzled.

I really really like the idea of Ishikawa as a pinch hitter off the bench but I don't see him bringing anything more to the table that Dickerson is doing.

Of course, this could also spell doom for Steve Pearce who is no longer the only backup 1B on the squad. He is, however, the only Right handed OF (besides Adam). If he goes, then it's McLouth or Dickerson vs lefties on a regular basis.

So... I'm puzzled. I'm not quite sure what DD and Buck are thinking here but I'm excited to see what Ishi can do.

I think this means we see Reimold and Ishikawa replace Pearce and Dickerson on the roster, at least for the short term. Dickerson had a good couple weeks, and won the game for us against the Yanks, but its not like he's hitting the cover off the ball. Pearce has pretty much lost the DH role to Valencia. Just my two cents.

Yep, makes sense to me.

Also, there is no way I'm going to change anything when it comes to Chris Davis. You do not fix what isn't broken.

:agree:

No way do I take any chances with him. He's no DHing. He's not moving up in the order. Nothing. Just let him keep "crushing" and leave the man be! That's what he DO!

Dickerson >>>>> Pierce. Better athlete, left handed hitter. Can play excellent defense, pinch run and there are a lot more right handed pitchers then lefties. If one has to go, it should be Pierce.

Different roles. Pearce serves as the LHP platoon guy in LF. Dickerson essentially the RHP DH

O's do have a hole versus righthand pitching at DH. Problem is Ishikawa all most never DHs. He has shown the ability to hit for average at times and drive in runs but his Slug Pct and OPS are not likely to be good.

I could see him staying until Reimold is ready. Taking Pearce spot after Gonzo is back. But overall its a short term move in all probability.

That might have something to do with the fact that all of his major league at bats have come in the National League. There is nothing to suggest that he cannot DH. The Orioles main left-handed DH option recently has been Dickerson and he has not been hitting.

Ishikawa also has a career .333 OBP versus RHP. Dickerson has a major league .284 OBP versus RHP. Dickerson is likely to hit for more power but right now he isn't hitting much at all. Not saying I would automatically take Ishikawa at the expense of losing Dickerson but there is a good chance Ishikawa would be an upgrade in the left-handed bat department until Betemit gets back.

Another thing to keep in mind is that if Dickerson is eventually jettisoned for Ishikawa, claimed by another team, and the need for a left-handed hitting outfielder (who can fill in at CF) arises, the O's do still have Jason Pridie who is really hitting well at Norfolk.

Ideally we should have a RH bat for LF when McLouth sits, a RH DH, a LH DH, and a 4th OF/PR. Unfortunately there's not enough room on the bench. Dickerson is a good 4th OF/PR but not so much as a LH DH. Pearce is a good RH bat in LF. Valencia is the better RH DH. Ishikawa would be a better LH DH than Dickerson IMO. You could play McLouth full time in LF, dump Pearce and keep Dickerson as 4th OF/PR, with Valencia/Ishikawa as DH. Or Dump Dickerson(McLouth can cover CF when needed) Keep Pearce For occasional LF/PH and have Valencia/Ishsikawa as as DH....until Betemit comes back.

I think that's exactly what the plan is. I read a report that said Duquette was working on a trade this weekend. They certainly didn't want him to just walk for nothing, so now it's up to the Orioles to see what they can get for him.

Yup. Mel Antonen on the MASN show said the O's are looking at Garza,Feldman and Kevin Correia . He said they spoke to both times. We shall see.
