Why is our number 1 prospect being used for 1 inning out of the pen?

Listening to DD on XM MLB today it sounded like he wanted to keep Gausman in the pen. We currently have 11 pitchers, 12 when Feldman joins us tomorrow. I think it's possible one of Dickerson, Flaherty, Valencia, or Casilla, goes before Gausman.

It's nice to have 2 pitchers you can bring in when you need a K!

I agree with Crazy and Eddie, I think his limited usage is multifaceted. Help us win some games or save the bullpen and keep his innings down. Personally I enjoy watching him pitch anytime he is out there so I'm glad to see him even for just a one inning stretch.

Getting Gausman to learn how to strike guys out by working out of the strike zone a bit would be huge for his career as well as the team.

He learned really quick the 99 down the middle don't play well in the show. You can throw it by guys in AA.

Surprised anyone can gripe about our #1 prospect being in the big leagues the summer after he was drafted, no matter what the capacity is.

I'd rather have him up here in the pen in a winning environment surrounded by guys like Davis, Machado, Markakis and McClouth instead of starting every 5th day in Bowie.

You know for years it was not uncommon for highly thought of SP prospects to work out of the BP

If I recall correctly Jim Palmer started like 6 or 7 games his rookie year and made like 20 or so appearances out of the pen

If you have a guy who has the obvious goods to be a stud then letting him work on ML caliber hitters is never a good thing so long as it can be done in a way that is beneficial to the team. Personally I like the idea. Seemed to have very little negative impact on David Price

Gausman isn't as good as the other 5 right now. He's not ready. He can help in the pen. Could he be sent to play in Arizona after the season?

Actually I beg to differ. I think talent wise he has more stuff than anyone on our staff. Which would make him "better" eventually with good commad, having said that, I agree he is probably not ready for a starting spot in a major-league rotation....maybe. But also could be very valuable and productive and developed out of our bullpen.

* meant to say letting him work on major league hitters is never a BAD thing.
