9 pitches. Here we go again. Cant the Orioles foul off about 7-8 pitches? Everyone else seems to be able to.

Markakis did. Then Manny took a weak swing on a 1st pitch and Jones tried to pull a 2-0 pitch that was down and away.

    • This is where I am at but Yates, Yimi, or Robertson instead of Holmes.
    • I was also just noticing that Kjerstad's career OPS+ of 116 is higher than Santander's 114 (but lower than Santander's career best 134 in '24). Kjerstad has yet to be unleashed vs LHP, but he has hit them well in the minors, and a decent platoon partner could also help. I will miss Santander but it's time to let the kids play.
    • With so many pitchers available in free agency I have no interest in trading prospects for pitching this off season.  They unloaded some possible useful prospects during the trade deadline.  We have little money committed to position players so it is time to spend on pitching that hopefully can be a part of this competitive window we should have.  The less prospects we have, the shorter this window becomes.
    • If not i reserve the right to bump my post about the Diontae Johnson trade. C'mon EDC.
    • You mean Yaz couldn’t get a look as a 4th or 5th OF on a team that lost 110+ games? Gregory “Low Leverage” Soto. Heck, TJ Macfarland was a beast in low leverage situations the year he was a Rule 5 pick. Heck, I might rather have TJ Macfarland next season. Soto will be here because Elias traded away assets for him. Elias is pot committed.  The board was 50/50 split over Adley/Witt. We were even going with the slogan “Quit for Witt”. Everyone is suddenly a Dr. involving DC. It couldn’t just be that Elias invested Seth Johnson, Moises Chace, Conner Norby, and Kyle Stowers for Rogers and Soto. So I think he’s invested in Rogers and Soto. There’s only so many spots on a MLB pitching staff. Rogers will be in the pen if he doesn’t make the rotation. Can’t have 5 lefties in the pen. So DC went.
    • I am still not a fan of picking up Perez (at least with the idea that he makes the team) and declining DC but I will say that doing some further research, I at least understand it a little more. Perez has been durable. He has appeared in 62 or more games for 3 straight seasons.  His WPA was solid, he gets a lot of groundballs, and he limits hard contact. Also, despite a high ERA, he had a very solid xERA and FIP. The issue I have with Perez is that he is more of a pitch to contact guy. His K rate is below average, his BB rate is way high, and he doesn’t miss bats or get guys to chase outside the zone.  DC  misses bats, has an above average K rate, excellent walk rate and does a respectable job against both righties and lefties. His statcast data is also very solid overall. So, why would they not pick him up? Well, he is 35 y/o, had arm issues in 2024, saw a decrease in his fastball velo and despite having good statcast numbers overall, he did see a drop off in some of them, including a big drop in EV. In 2023, the EV off him was 85.6. This year it was 90.3. So, I can kind of see it. Maybe they see a drop in DC's production coming?  Maybe they think Perez will be better? But then why not pick up the option to trade him?  You couldn't find a taker for a 1/4 deal? You couldn't get someone to give you back something for that?  I find that hard to believe.
    • I doubt they trade him unless they plan to punt on 2025 and we should be aiming higher anyway.
