Why can't we trade for Chris Sale?

Which is why you aren't a GM. Because that trade is insane.
At least it's not as bat-@#$% crazy as Bundy, Gausman, Henry, and Urrutia which he also said he'd definitely do.

All the people saying how crazy a trade it would be probably would have said the same thing about trading Matusz/Arrieta, etc. a few years ago.

You get attached to our "prospects" and where they are rated upon being drafted and think they will all turn out to be that good.

History proves the pitchers we draft for whatever reason don't seem to turn out to be as good as they were supposed to be.

It would not surprise me if in a few years Bundy and/or Gausman turn out exactly like Arrieta/Matusz/Britton - guys that were supposed to be dynamite but struggle to stay out of minor league demotions or are converted to bullpen work even though they were destined by the stars to be ace starters.

It seems some here forget these guys are called "prospects" for a reason. They are unproven. Or even when they become proven it is at a level far less than what they were supposed to be at (aka underachiever).

Unless they get a new owner it's nearly impossible for them to consistently compete trading many/most prospects for established players.

I agree. While it is fun to discuss "insane" trade offers and what not, in reality we all know the owner we have will never put us in a position to be major players for free agents or trades.

Now if we somehow win it all, with such a large owner installed glass ceiling/handicap, it will be that much more rewarding. But if we find ourselves (in this revitalized O's timeframe w/ Buck) coming up just short over and over, it will be agonizing to know that part of that was due to the owner we have.
