Trade rumors heat up...

Thanks Tony for the update.

Regarding the possibility that PGA nixed the deal, that is a major concern for everyone. It was the 1st and most asked question of AM prior to his taking the position he's in - Will you have final say in baseball decisions?

I'd like to blindly believe that PGA's interference is simply conjecture or an excuse that AM is using to get a better deal done.

It would be hard to believe that some major deals are NOT on the brink of happening (dominoes falling... etc..) after all that's been reported here and in rumored via various sources.

We've all learned not to count our eggs before they're in the basket, BUT, it's hard not to move ahead of ourselves knowing how many moves are necessary to improve the team.

Can someone please comment on this assertion by BB? I need to know whether or not to light my torch.

Just go ahead and light it. You can always put it out later.

I doubt Angelos nixed this deal. Tony's report says that both teams pulled back and are still working on a larger deal. Rosenthal said this morning that the sides were still "just talking" and that a position player may be in the mix.

If PGA truly nixed this deal I bet that the rest of the media would have picked up on that, but most of them weren't even reporting the deal as done at all.

I think some people may have gotten wires crossed or mis-read the tealeaves here.

Bigbird, is this something you have heard or are you just making an assumption based on what Roch was saying in his blog?

I don't think Roch said anything in his blog really.

WE all know that PA - like every other owner - will need to sign off on a trade. He also says that MacPhail won't keep the lines of communications open much longer.

Roch leads me to believe that AM is the man driving this boat.

Trade nixed by PGA???????????????????????????????????????

You bet!

I hate to sound like one of the folks who bashes insiders, but I get tired of obscure posts like these made by insiders, right before taking off and leaving us to debate whether this is speculation, opinion, or inside information. How about some details about this, bb???

If a deal was taken to Angelos for approval, then MacPhail must have believed that it was worth doing. If Angelos nixed the deal, then AM is not the man driving the boat, he's merely a guy giving suggestions on how to drive the boat.

If Peter Angelos looks at a trade and says, "That's not good enough for me", then nothing has changed.

DING! DING! DING! We have a winner.

I am truly hoping that this is NOT how it played out. It sounds like we have conflicting reports from our insiders. Sonny never said that a deal was done, nor did BB. I'm wondering if their guys may be a little more "in the know".

Thanks for being candid BB.

If a Cedeno, Gallagher, Marshall deal was agreed to it was fair. Was it the best, sure that's debatable. But IMO it was an equitable return for Roberts.

I realize PGA owns the team and he can have final signoff. But I am the customer and I object to PGA interfering with baseball operations.

When the smoke clears this week I hope Roberts is traded for value. If it comes out definitively that has Angelos interfered than I will never again be a paying customer for PGA's Orioles. Furthermore, I would hope that AM tells off PGA and quits.

Right now I am not a happy camper!!:mad::mad::mad::mad:

This is ridiculous. Who decides what is enough return for Roberts, the baseball expert hired to run things, or the meddling owner?

It depends on what people think of the deal. When PA interferes with a deal people like, they say he's a meddling owner. When he interferes with a deal they don't like, he's the owner...so he has the right to do it. You can't have it both ways people. Either you don't mind him meddling (like he has for the last decade), or you want him to stay out of it.
