When you look at free agants you have to wonder how much the Yankees will be in there. They have so much money with Arod contract and all the free agents they have comming up this season. It will be intersting what they have on their roster comming April. Will they resign guys like Cano, Granderson, Kuroda Hughes, Youk.

Paying top dollar for FAs, doesn't always buy you a championship team.

Depends on how cheap. I think Lincecum is still going to get a pretty good contract this year, not the $20M he's making now, but I could see someone offering a 2-3 year deal.

If he's cheap and 1-2 years, sure, but I don't think he'll be too cheap. His delivery is concerning. It was the reason he slipped so far in the draft, but it may also be what caused him to be so effective when he was.

Lincecum got a new 2 year deal.

There's not a lot of value in that list. A lot depends on how they evaluate their prospects in the offseason, but going into next year they are going to need to be looking for a second baseman, a left fielder and a designated hitter. I'd be interested in Beltran on a one-year deal.

If he could be had cheap, does anyone else think that Tim Lincecum could be a worthy reclamation prospect? He's still relatively young.

I was thinking the same thing going through the list. I don't want to bet the farm, but a moderately priced 2 or 3 year contract would be worth the gamble IMO. Certainly not worth $20 mil a year. But a 2/18 or 3/21 or something in that neighborhood would be intriguing.

Ellsbury would be a nice consolation prize if they can't resign McLouth. Of course it wouldn't even make sense that if they can't afford Nate that they could sign Ellsbury. I can't see them signing any of them.

Scott Feldman

Jason Hammel

Jim Johnson

Nate McLouth

Brian Roberts

Francisco Rodriguez

Tsuyoshi Wada

They also have some of these guys to work on as well.

Nate is a guy they we will resign IMO I don see Johnson returning and the others guys aren't worth bringing back also Betemits option won't vest and they won't bring him back unless he explodes during his stint later this season.

Jim Johnson is not a free agent.

Feldman, Hammel, McLouth, Roberts, and Rodriguez are free agents.

Wada, Betemit, and Casilla have options.

Johnson, Hunter, Norris, Matusz, Patton, Wieters, Davis, Teagarden, Reimold, and Pearce are arbitration eligible.

Tillman, Gonzo, Flaherty, McFarland, Valencia, Machado, and Urrutia are 0-3 guys.

O'Day, Chen, Hardy, Markakis, and Jones are locked in long-term.

Ah good catch on JJ & Wada. Was living up to my name and just looked quickly at Sportrac's 2014 free agents.

Must spread rep...

I still think the team made a big mistake not making a splash for Hamilton. Ohh nevermind call me when he's not hitting .221

The dangers of the mega-contracts that some of these prime-time guys sign. Sometimes (or almost always), you don't get anywhere near what you paid. I don't particularly want to see us pay up any $20 million contracts right now. We're still several players away from being a true World Series contender (mainly pitching). But we do need to be more active this year with the B-list type guys.

Granted, I'm sure we tried to be active last year and it just didn't work out too much. But it's apparent now that last year wasn't a fluke. This is actually a good team... a good nucleus to build onto. We need to get more pieces.

Count me in as another vote for Choo. This team needs more in the P/PA and OBP department. With a career OBP of .386 and P/PA of 4.01, Choo certainly fits the bill.

I'm a fan of McLouth, but Choo is the better player.

He could be our Johnny Damon.

    • Tanner Scott is on his final year with the Marlins and Hunter Harvey has one more year with the Nats, those are the likely biggest available names. Kopech from CWS is also a potential RP option. Problem is there are very few actually worthwhile players on the teams that will sell - I don’t expect the Giants, Astros, Cardinals or Angels to sell even if they should. The Nats have some good young players that won’t be available, and not much else. And the Rockies are baffling adverse to trading any of their players, if they even end up with someone worth trading for.  Mason Miller and Jesus Luzardo have plenty of team control left (pretty much all of it for Miller, and 2 years after this one for Luzardo), they will get talked about a lot but are not super likely to move. Luzardo also has pitched quite poorly thus far.
    • Because you and I text often, and did during the game yesterday...you know how annoying and negative I can be. I'm a whiner and complainer when it comes to this team. But when we win, and I see some kind of performance like Henderson gave...I want to write a sonnet or symphony in my mind...paint some sort of masterpiece. I have to put my joy SOMEWHERE. Yes, I probably am over the top in my love for this team. WEAMS came and stayed at my home a few years ago and was mesmerised by my Oriole  collection of memorabilia that goes back more than 50 years when I was a batboy. Brooks Robinson and Palmer stayed for a weekend once. I was told to take all my Oriole stuff down, lest Brooks think I'm a kook. Brooks David, his son, told me to "keep all the stuff up...my dad LOVES this stuff. And Brooks Sr did INDEED "love the stuff". So, yes, even in a long up and down season...I cant curb my addiction. I sulk when we lose or are losing...and I'm giddy as a 5 year old when we win dramatically. Maybe I should seek a therapist. But I don't want to. I dont want to or need to be "fixed"....To quote the line from earlier in this comment...."I love this stuff". Its a romance that breaks my heart sometimes, but when it's right and I'm happy...nothing else in sports for me, comes close.
    • I have a feeling they take a corner in the first round
    • We've been also doing this while carrying Holliday's bat.  Other than that, we have a Braves level offense.
    • You can’t see injury or decline until it happens. And he will decline in his 30s.  Whether or not he has injury issues is to be seen.
    • I hope this thread doesn't start a jinx!!!!!!! 😀 Waving my anti-jinx wand!!!!  Baseball is a game of averages. Don't assume anything long term - as sure as it may seem. Just cross fingers and enjoy the now.
    • I agree on the Nats, which is why they are at the bottom of the list. They do  Hunter Harvey coming into final arbitration year, which is appealing.
