What is the likely fate of the the three longest tenured Orioles for next season?

I'd say Roberts is AAA quality. Markakis is having an AAAA season right now. Looking at this season objectively. Slap a pseudonym on him. Pretend it's his rookie year. He's having a sub type season.

I agree he is having a down year. He is not hitting the ball with any power. He plays a very good RF. He is tied for 14th in RF OPS in the ML. He is an average RF in the majors. He is not a AAAA player by any means.

People are killing JJ and Markakis, leading to people exaggerating how bad they have actually been.

Roberts gone

No one is trading for Jim Johnson just look at his numbers even last year all his numbers sucks. Only good stat he had in 2012 was BABIP and that is coming back to earth in 2013.

Markakis Gone after 2014.

In particular the number of saves he had last year sucked...just sucked.

More to it then Saves. Most teams want a real closer not a pitch to contact and get lucky closer.

So then you have done a survey of ML executives and they have overwhelmingly told you that a pitcher with lower strike out rates cannot be a closer?

These are ML baseball players, JJ is not getting lucky - that is not possible over the sample size he has produced in his tenure with the Orioles.

No team is gonna pay Jim Johnson 8m in 2014. Jim will be non tender and lucky to get 3m a year.

I would be willing to bet that the Orioles bring him back in 2014....I just see no reason to part with a guy who has already given us 90 saves the last two seasons and has 1 and a half months to go in the season. Maybe I am wrong, but I actually think JJ is undervalued on this board, big time.

I heard something crazy last night that Jim Johnson out of his 39 saves only 11 have been quality save. If you wanna pay a guy 8m for this go ahead. I rather that money go to signing Davis or Manny.

Really, I wonder what messed up stat metric they used for that.

A save is a save is a save.

His current salary is not out of line, compared to his peers:

Someone doesn't understand how baseball economics work.

JJ will not be non-tendered. Someone will offer value for him. The Orioles will most likely retain his services anyway. If he is non-tendered, he will get much more than $3M from some team.

No way J J is non-tendered, he would be traded for something. There will be a couple teams that would take J J on a one year contract.

Absolutely. By the time this year is over, JJ will have something like 100 saves over the last two years (he's at 93 now). That's a very rare feat. Some team will be willing to trade for him and pay him a closer's salary.
