Sweet, but Canaries ain't Orioles.

Up until the early 1900s team nicknames were pretty fluid, often made up by sportswriters on a whim, unofficial, and almost never put on uniforms. The Louisville Colonels were known as the Cyclones for a time because of a tornado that came through town. The Indians were known as the Naps because of Napoleon Lajoie. So, it's pretty likely that both the Canaries and the 1880s-90s Orioles were at least as often referred to as "The Baltimores" or the "Baltimore Nine". The Nats are called the Nats because they're named after the old NL team of 120 years ago, when it was common to just call a team "The Washington National League Club" or Nationals for short. That was how they were differentiated from the American Association or Union Association clubs. That kind of thing persisted for a long time, through the Federal League, maybe even up to WWII.
