Happy birthday, Brad Bergesen.

You were nice enough to introduce yourself to me when I was allowed onto the field for batting practice in August of 2011.

Bergesen was such fun to watch during his one good season. He probably wasn't destined for stardom either way, but I do wonder if his career might have turned out more positively if not for the line drive off his leg.

OK, the Orioles still have not had a complete-game shutout since Miguel Gonzalez hurled one against the Reds on September 3rd of 2014.

In fact, prior to today, they had not even had A COMPLETE GAME OF ANY KIND since that day 2 years ago !!!

As was discussed earlier in the thread, complete games and shutouts are extremely rare these days.

How rare ???

Last year, the Orioles were tied for 8th out of 15 teams in the American League in complete-game shutouts ........ and they didn't have any !!!

This year, with season winding down, the Orioles are tied for 4th in the American League in complete-game shutouts ........ and they don't have any.

In any case, congratulations to Ubaldo Jimenez for attaining the Orioles' first complete game of any kind since September of 2014 ...... even though it wasn't a shutout.

Congrats to Wade Miley for nearly completing a shutout and going 8 2/3 innings before "ceding" his first run in an ultimate 6-1 victory over the AZ Diamondbacks on 9/24/16. The game's last out was recorded by Tyler Wilson. Miley struck out 11 while not "ceding" a free pass on 116 pitches. :clap3:

(vs. REDS, 4/19)

Jimenez came close last night, but couldn't quite finish it off.

The Orioles still haven't had a Complete-Game Shutout since the 2014 season, when Chris Tillman and Miguel Angel Gonzalez each hurled one for the Birdies.

(vs. ATHLETICS, May 5th, 2018)

This was not a complete-game shutout, but Gausman did throw 9 shutout innings, so I'm giving him an honorable mention.

Crying shame that we crave good pitching like a starving man, but the bats just go limp. It’s maddening. I would not blame Gausman if he went and broke a bat over some hitters’ knees Davis-style. Not serious of course, but it’s the same kind of frustration.
