With yesterday's HR, is there ANY chance Chris Davis could get MVP?

Miggy did homer yesterday but he's been slumping lately b/c of his injury. Miggy's numbers are still gaudy, but it seems CD's homers lately have been crucial.

If CD gets between 55-58 HR and leads the AL in RBI, the O's make the playoffs (only shot CD has IMO) and Miggy drops his avg about 10 points and only hits 1-2 more HR...does he have an outside chance?

I think being only the 3rd person in history with 40 2B and 50 HR will help him.

Right now he's unanimous 2nd place finisher.

Mike Trout? He's got more BBs than about the entire Orioles team combined. Probably won't get it because the Angels suck, but he'll get votes. I think voting probably goes:

1. Miggy

2. Trout

3. Crush Deputy

He's having a great season but the Angels were never in contention. He'll get most of the 3rd place votes I'm sure, but may even get a few 4th and 5th place votes b/c writers love to vote for players on teams in contention.

I think if Davis has a hot final 12 games and his hitting carries the O's into a playoff spot, he will have a shot at MVP. If we miss the playoffs, there's no way.

This is how I see it. Even if we make the playoffs and he hits 5-6 more HR, there's still a good chance he doesn't get it. The thought of an Oriole winning an MVP is mind-boggling. I was too young to appreciate 1991.

Wait a second Trout has 100 base on balls the O's as a team have 380 base on balls. How is that even close to being true. Chris Davis has 66 walks just by himself. Nonsensical post.

I think the voting is done after the regular season so how CD hits in the playoffs does not matter. Getting to the playoffs matter big time.

I can see how you thought I meant him hitting 5-6 HR in the playoffs, but I meant 5-6 more in the regular season. I knew they voted for awards once season ends

I'd be shocked if Davis finishes behind Trout. Whether or not you agree with it (I certainly do), many voters don't consider someone who has great statistical value on a bad team as more valuable than someone with great statistical value on a contender.

If it were a 'best player' award, Trout should walk away with it. But it's not defined/described as such.

I'm of the opinion that the award should be defined by either the MLB or BBWAA, as the NHL awards are defined by the NHL and NHLPA.
