Facial hair

Then that is hypocritical.

Nah, I know what he means. I've worn facial hair of some kind since I was 17, except for brief periods here and there. While occasionally I let it run wild, I mostly try to keep it under control, or at least like I am trying to groom it some, if styled longer. I think most of the Red Sox beards are just guys who stopped shaving (cutting their hair, too). It just looks LAZY. I have longer hair right now because I'm trying to save money on haircuts...they're just doing it because they can, and I'm not going to say that it looks unprofessional, because they play baseball, but they look like tools. You can wear facial hair and not like it when someone looks like someone who barely bathes with theirs. Puts a stigma on it that affects us all.

There is a difference between it being short and well groomed "looking professional", and looking like most of the Red Sox.

So if your doctor or the President of the US looked like this, you'd have no problem?

Maybe you should check and see some of the pictures of our past presidents.

There are many different ways in which the owner of a business wants his employees to appear, and for many different reasons. A lot depends on the product being sold as well as the owners personal taste. As to BOS, the product is a WS bound team. If the thought is that their facial hair choices is helping team chemistry and leading to better production, then perhaps their owner prefers the production to appearances. And perhaps he feels the production sells more tickets than the teams look. If he were selling stocks and bonds or banking opportunities he might prefer the clean shaven, suits and tie look, given the market he is appealing to. If I am selling pop rock records I might prefer the beards and grunge look. I think appearance pretty much the depends on the product you are selling and the market you are appealing to.

Yeah the Red Sox are obviously going for the crazy grizzly adams beard for ****s and giggles and for team unity. I don't care that they have them and I don't think they're unprofessional...but they definitely look like idiots.

You think that applies to all employees of all companies? Say, Walmart or Disney?

Have you been to a Walmart lately? I wouldn't say their employee dress code wreaks of professionalism. I was there yesterday and most had jeans on with their boxers showing. I guess the little Walmart vest does add a little professionalism to the look.
