What Would You Give Davis

I don't know. I don't know how you can know. Texas did not know.

Yeah, you really can't know for sure.

I don't want to make it sound like I'm anti-Crush. I think he's turned a corner and will be a .900ish guy the next few years. But, I wanted to at least play devil's advocate here because things were getting glossed over. If we sign Crush this offseason, I'll consider it mostly positive because it should mean an increase in payroll.

Absolutely. Counselor.

If Jones is worth 6/85.5M to the O's .....

Then Davis is worth 6/110M.

Where Jones swings has misses the low and away pitch, Davis hits it for a homer to the opposite field.

That is absolutely meaningless words.

What about: "where Davis is bulky and plays an easy position at a below average level, Jones has won Gold Gloves at one of the most difficult positions on the field." See how both are just meaningless words.

Davis has had 1 season, out of 5, that qualify him to be anything other than a decent player.

Jones K's = 136

Davis K's = 199

Jones plays CF, and has had 4 seasons better than Davis' best season before this year.

Oh sure. I was just showing the proportional relations ship of K to Big Flys. Nothing to do with value. Adam Jones is one of the most club friendly contracts that a superstar has. We are quite fortunate. I know that the two year track record of Davis makes anyone pause. With Boras as his agent, there is no waiting. Either sign him now, or let him walk. Depends how you like the odds.

I wonder how quietly he could be shopped, just to get an idea of his value. I have no idea what someone would be willing to trade for him.

I'll just go on record saying I don't expect Davis to consistently put up 5-7 WAR seasons and I don't believe he'll be awarded 10+MM in arbitration this year (a 300%+ raise in his second arb season).

If Davis is seeking 80MM+ after a huge spike (plot his production on a line graph and tell me where you think it's headed next), I'd be happy to go year to year. Baltimore got a heck of a lot of value on a shot-in-the-dark trade. No need to mess it all up with a silly, poorly timed contract.

It all depends on whether you think the adjustments Davis made this year are solid or if they were just a fluke and he will regress to his mean and be a 2-3 War player. In that case you wouldn't want to exceed 10 M per. But if you think he is a 4-6 WAR player then you would be OK with 15-18 M per. So which is it? You have to choose now because you won't get the chance to extend him next year. I know the first words out of Boras' mouth will be, "Davis has been worth 45 M the last two years and you've paid him 3.7 M. SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!!"

One year, seriously? What was last season, a figment of my imagination? I guess 33 HRs & 85 RBIs was nothing.

Texas never had room for him, yet his first two seasons he hit 17 & 21 HRs, not bad for a rookie getting started. If Hank would have that his first two years, you would be jumping up and down.
