Markakis isn't going anywhere. The return it would take to overcome the PR hit for the Orioles is way too high for any team realistically looking to acquire him. This is a nonstory.

1- Winning teams take less of a PR hit then losing teams.

2- Markakis isn't the face of the franchise anymore.

I don't see folks staying away from the ballpark because Nick gets traded.

I've been wondering why there has not been a "Markakis trade value" thread. I guess because it doesn't seem possible that anyone would take his contract, and the O's would not want to pay somebody else to take their best player from the last decade. If they would take his contract, I would be all over just about any B level prospect.

No offense to Markakis and for all he's done, but I'd trade him and his $15 million contract for a bag a BP baseballs if I didn't have to eat any of his contract.

A Markakis for Daniel Murphy and Ike Davis deal could be a possibility. Murphey is projected at 5.8mm in arbitration and Davis at 3.5. Markakis is signed for 15 million for next year. So the Mets would only be adding 5.7 million in payroll next year. If Markakis rebounds and posts closer to his career norms they could pick up his option given the way the markets going.
