Awesome news. I feel a lot better about giving up our 2nd and 3rd round picks knowing that at least we have a comp pick in there.

Actually, our moves to start the setup man rush probably caused this. The Rockies had Hawkins on their radar for a while.

How do you guys compare him to the 4 guys we just signed? I think he could easily have a season comparable to any of the 4, but he only got 1 year and 3.5M. Is this more evidence of the O's over-paying to redo the bullpen?

I don't think so. Hawkins is aging and his strikeout rate was horrible last year. Of course its possible that he could have a good season next year, but I would bet that he doesn't match the guys we signed in productivity.

Obvioulsy the orioles didn't think he was comparable to the guys we signed, or they would have tried to sign him. I agree with their judgment.

One four door sedan in blue with 200 hp with 30 mpg costs $16777 another costs $31000. Amazingly many choose the more expensive one because of other intangibles. So did we.

This is like Xmas in December! Outstanding.

How about a little kudos for our FO? Trading Steve Kline for Hawkins nets us a supplemental first rounder. I'm sure people will play this down, but this is exactly the type of moves that cause people to go mushy over Billy Beane.

One has to like the $ being thrown at Hawkins relative to what we are paying our guys - on a per year basis.

Signing a type B does not cost your team a pick, it simply costs you a free agent signing. The compensation to the former team is supplemental.
