You think Hart's medicals are any better than Balfour's? Balfour hasn't been on the DL in 8 years. Hart missed the whole season last year. If we couldn't get Balfour past PA at 7M, why do you think we would have gotten Hart past him for 6M?

2 big differences. Hart was signed for one year, not 2. Also, Balfour is a pitcher.

I imagine they looked at medicals on Hart and didn't make an offer. Knees are as important to hitters as arms are to pitchers. Balfour's MRI wasn't even enhanced. It was PA BS pure and simple.

For me, the jury is out on whether Urrutia will prove to be purely a singles hitter. He wasn't purely a singles hitter in the minors or the AFL, and as I've mentioned many times, this is a guy who hadn't played organized baseball in two years and wasn't in the best environment for conditioning or nutrition over those two years, either. I'm not going to pigeonhole him based on 58 major league plate appearances in his first year of playing baseball in the U.S.

Roch reports Urrutia has shown up for minicamp looking like he has been "spending quality time in the weight room." http://m.masn.mobi/school_of_roch/2014/01/notes-on-belfiore-urrutia-hunter-s-johnson-ohlman-bridwell-and-more.html
