Would you rather have Chris Davis or Freddie Freeman for the next eight years?

Which player we root for was not the question. Freeman is 3.5 years younger, and will still be in his prime in 2021. That pretty much decided the question for me. Of course we root for the Orioles. That doesn't mean we are blind to the facts.

Ordinarily that would mean a lot to me as well. I think Davis could age well. And the end of the contract is not age 42 like some of these stupid deal.

I often wonder why some of you even root for the team. You would prefer other team's players all the time. If you like Freeman so much why not just root for rwhatever team he is on.

Thanks for your permission, but it was just a simple question. I think everyone here likes Davis, but most would agree that the contract Freeman received makes him more of a sure bet over the next 8 years.

Freeman hits more like Manny. That's what I'm saying. Davis's power is gargantuan.
I was just making a Manny comparison for his offensive upside. Freeman. Davis is a grown man.

Davis hit 21 HR with 150 SO and a .238 average in his age 23 season if your interested in comparing apples with apples. At 6'5" 225 I'm sure there is plenty of untapped power potential in there for Freddie Freeman. I suspect Freeman's best power days are ahead. Freeman may never his bombs at Davis pace but I'd be willing to bet there is a string of 30 HR seasons in there and he can really handle the bat.

I dont see the Freeman vs Crush debate.

Freeman is a young Brave, who locked him up, long term, before he was eligible for arbitration.

Something the Orioles should think long and hard about for Manny. Which is where the comparison is, both young stars, both with expected upsides to their game.

You could well be right. Chris would never have gotten a contract like Freeman did at age 23.

They are both great ball players. Freeman has the sweet swing with developing power and Davis finally comes into his own with crazy raw power. A team is fortunate to have either guy and I'm glad we have our guy. I just hope we have our guy post 2015.

That is not your original question. You said which player would your rather have. I would pick Chris Davis as he is an Oriole and a good one at that. I don't know who will be better over the next 8 years and it doesn't effect my decision of whom I would rather have on the team.

The reason I asked the question is because I am trying to figure out what Freeman's contract extension means for the market value of Chris Davis. If you think Davis is going to be the better player over the next 8 years, then it stands to reason that we'd have to pay him at least as much as Freeman is going to get, and probably more. If you think Freeman is going to be the better player over the next 8 years, then Freeman's contract seems like a ceiling that you'd want the Davis contract to be under. So all I'm trying to determine is who people think will be the better player of the two over the next 8 years, so I can factor it into my thinking. I'm sure Boras is thinking about how this contract impacts Chris. And Chris himself may be thinking about it. Let's say the O's come to him with an offer of 8/$120 mm. Wouldn't his first reaction be, "so you don't think I'm as valuable as Freddie Freeman?"

I picked Freeman. Younger, cheaper, better all around player. and he doesn't have Scott Boras for an agent. Also wants to stay with his team. Freeman's deal is the floor for Davis barring a disastrous next two seasons. I think Davis will average 35-40 HR the next two years and get more than Ellsbury as a FA. It's not the intrinsic value of the player, it's the market that establishes his FA value. MFY and BOS will both want a 1B.

I find it interesting that the Atlanta Braves had a 90M payroll in 2013 (according to Cots Contracts) and could afford to sign Freeman to an 8 year/135M contract.

I'd say that indicates that so could the O's afford Chris Davis.

At that rate yes. But I bet if you offered that to CD, Boras would turn it down. Can they afford what Boras is asking? Remember he was asking Mauer money for Wieters.

I still think if the O's offer 8/146M Davis will sign.
He might, although I don't think PA would offer that much. And I think Boras would strongly advise against it. And I think Chris listens to Boras. This whole I'd love to stay in BAL thing is a part of the Boras PR. It makes the O's look cheap and reticent and keeps the fan pressure on their side. If the fans knew what they were asking that might change.

Ask for what ever they want. But a solid offer will make them make a decision. Cano asked for 305M. He got 240M. I think he is happy with that.
