Road Trip to Orioles Spring Training in Sarasota, FL! (Post here if you are going to ST)

We weren't able to fit our cornhole boards in the car for the trip, but we spent about an hour or so drinking beer and eating sandwiches/snacks in the parking lot before the games. It's a good way to save a few bucks and not get greased down at a local pub before the game.

I look forward to your epic Sarasota tales.

You've got my number. We will be at every game 6th through 12th. If it is warm, I'm doing a beach day or two. It sounds like OH is taking over Sarasota for a week. I bet we might find a few more OH legends in town that week as well.

Bob? Is Bob gonna be there? That would just about make my day.

I was going to do that long weekend too, but it's getting too close to my wife's due date.

I'm in Orlando, though, so it's easier for me. :)

I'll be attending a single game, just not sure which one.

Make sure you say hello. I won't have long pants or real shows on for a week. And they say when the sun hits my dome just right, it is almost blinding to the uninitiated.

Weams and JustD already have two of the tickets, but I have extras for the Sunday Pirates home game if anyone wants some. Gates do open two hours in advance, and I'll be going in immediately to allow my son to improve upon his 24 baseballs from last year so no tailgating for this guy (not sure that they allow it, but I saw some guys drinking beers in lawn chairs last year).

It's coming soon!!!!

Will do. Still not sure what game or games I am going to attend. I might play hooky and go to a weekday game like the Twins on Monday, March 3rd.

Bob? Is Bob gonna be there? That would just about make my day.

BoltonBob & wife Cathy will be there Mar. 6-10. Have extra tics for Sunday (just arrived). Also doing day-trip

March 1 there from Clearwater (actually now living in "Belleair Bluffs" near Indian Rocks beach.) Also Mar. 17 (St Patty's Day :P for Phillies in Clearwater, & Sun Mar. 23 for Skanks in Tampa, hitting Shamrock Irish pub on way home. Will hit most parks from Ft Myers to Pt Charlotte to Tamps & Kissemee/Lakeworth - sometimes 2 games in 1 day.

Hitting Rays Fanfest Feb 22 (free) for "senior" tic package - 3 games for $25 @ the air conditioned TROP; Ferg's nearby is our "Pickles" & within walking distance. Keep looking for Tony and Hangout gang to surprise us @ Ferg's. :smile11::smile11:

Hope to meet Weams & Denise @ place in Sarasota where ushers hang out. Have a few beach spots and places in Bradenton near Days INN (who has video footage of me after hours in pool.) :D - so as long as I keep coming back it stays in safe. Looking forward to catching up w/BroPhil and gang again and a few new "adventures." :wedge::wedge:

You can see Weam's dome from the airplanes, when the sun is right! BYW, most Hooters have a free beer w/game tic. Free WiFi for posting. :hearts: Good Oysters :slytf: & great Happy Hour, too!

Hmmm....Hooters and Free Beer? As Jeff Foxworthy says....

"If you wanna know what men are thinking, we're thinking we want a cold beer and we wanna see summin naked!"

    • But he's 82nd percentile in barrel percentage and 92nd percentile in Whiff. I saw some some high EVs that were hit at 60 degree angles or more which were pop ups. I'm not saying he's a long term piece. I'd need to see it for longer than two starts, but I like the stuff overall, especially if he can get his curveball over more often to give another look to the change and cutter.
    • The rookie is a #2 overall selection, now 25 years old, who battled back from missing significant time with non-baseball related illness, was called up last season but had mostly sit behind a mediocre performing veteran (Hays), and is performing better at the minor league levels than Hays ever did. But, I guess he hasn’t paid his dues and is just temporarily holding a spot for the guy who was fortunate enough to come up when he was much younger and the organization was in bad shape.
    • Simmer down...  Just because you've got it all figured out doesn't mean I do.
    • by all means bet the house and the student loans
    • Jumping on to make sure everyone here knows about the Orioles history project I've started this season. It's called the Bird Tapes . When I wrote my oral history book about the team a quarter-century ago, I interviewed all the major figures in franchise history and kept the microcassette tapes that I used while recording those interviews. They sat in a shoebox in my closet for years but now I've had them digitized and I'm going to be rolling them out in weekly posts along with some new writing that connects the Orioles' past to the present. The Bird Tapes is housed on the Substack media platform. The web address is birdtapes.substack.com. It's a subscription-based model and subscribers gain access to the vintage interviews for a small monthly fee. So far I have posted my quarter-century-old interviews with Brooks Robinson, Earl Weaver and Ernie Harwell, the legendary broadcaster who was the Orioles' first play-by-play man. Next up: Paul Blair. I've written articles about Mark Belanger and Brooks, and much, much more is coming. The response to the rollout of the Bird Tapes has been great so far. Please subscribe if interested at birdtapes.substack.com.
    • We drafted him for his elite speed and defense. If the bat plays - he could be a star. If not, he could still be a useful piece. You don't see the same projections from Cowser, Westburg or Kjerstad because those were bat-first players. There's a reason we're having trouble finding space for guys like Kjerstad and Norby.  Also you're going to say it might be his first draft flop after 13 games at A+? Wild.
    • Kjerstad.  It’s more about Mountcastle.  If Mountcastle is healthy he’s at 1B everyday.  Against RHP there are no spots available for Kjerstad.   They aren’t platooning him against LHP.  Ain’t gonna happen.   Unless Mountcastle is down for an extended period or someone else gets hurt this is going to be a short stay for Kjerstad.        Now criers gonna cry the same way they do when you mention the possibility of Holliday getting sent down.  Lol Now, I hope Holliday goes 4-4 and Kjerstad hits two homers tonight.
