The red string. Rick has posts that hold a red sting in front of the catcher about 3 inches over the kneecap. The drill is for all your pitches to go under the string.

The Dodgers started using strings at Vero Beach for Rex Barney. He was terribly wild, but threw harder than anyone. So, they created a strike zone out of strings to give him a clearer target. Rex became a very good pitcher, but was never the same after breaking his leg. The Dodgers took the strings out of mothballs a few years later for another young fireballer who couldn't find the strike zone: Sandy Koufax.
