Me too. I was a bit put off that they seemed to imply that signing those guys was going above and beyond what they would otherwise do. I like that they did it, but that's what they're supposed to do, imo.

It was good of them to get a nice arm with teams a team like Toronto still out there and looking. I don't see anything particularly crafty, but closing the deal on Jiminez rather than standing pat going into the season definitely makes the Birds a better team.

Toronto and the (assuming) desperate Red Sox. I'm thinking Boston is all in on Santana now.

Boston doesn't need a starter. Before Dempster took the year off, they were thinking of trading a SP. They *might* bring in a guy like Capuano who could work out of the 'pen or rotation as insurance, but I don't see any chance of them pursuing Santana.
