Same price as Garza + the pick.

I doubt this will work out well. It could, because Jimenez has real upside, but I doubt this will work out well.

I think a major factor for DD is that Jimenez has made atleast 31 starts six straight seasons. Garza and a pin holding his arm together is a big concern. And the talk of Santana having a tear in his elbow probably ruled him out. Its alot of money, but other than Burnett on a 1 year deal, I think Jimenez has the most upside. And he's a srikeout pitcher. Something the Orioles dont have.

I love actual news, but nothing is finalized yet. Heck, as we already learned with Balfour, even when it is finalized , it isn't neccesarily finalized.

Well, fine. I think I'm finally in the camp that is so depressed with our decision-making track record that I'll take any kind of change at this point.

Seriously. It's a stupid deal, but at least they're finally doing something. The Orioles, beating their fans down to make their poor decisions seem justifiable.

This. He was terrible in Cleveland until the second half of last year (where he was phenomenal). I don't feel good about this. Giving up a draft pick for him plus four years seems like a bad idea to me.

At his worst hes our #3, at his best hes almosr anyones #1. What are the odds our 1st rd pick in 2014 ever turns out to be at that level?? Very small. This deal is a nobrainer, sorry

1. I'd almost rather not have heard about this. If a deal actually gets done, I'd like to know. But I'm sick of deals we are "working on" or which are "close". )edit -- I guess we're done, pending a physical)

2. If the deal does happen, I have mixed feelings. Jiminez hasn't been consistent, but his ceiling is high and he keeps the ball in the park. I won't be flipping cartwheels over this deal, but I won't be upset, either. I don't like losing the pick but that price (4/$48mm) isn't terrible.

3. At least some critics will have to shut up and retract what they said about Duquette lying about his intentions, etc.

Saunders + a 1st-round draft pick + $12 million a year for other players.

Do you think Saunders would pitch for free? He is going to want 6 million a year. So you save 6 million and keep your pick. I myself would rather have a good player and spend the extra 6 a year.

    • Worst case scenario, what is the number of at bats that would force them to make a decision on sending him back down?  Hopefully it doesn't come to that, but what would it truly take?  3 for 100 or something nuts like that? The reality is, we've seen multiple examples just recently of a touted debut (though not as touted as Holliday), flailing around, then back to AAA for a reset, and then success in the majors.  Bradish, Rodriguez, Cowser are the clear examples of this, and Rutschman/Henderson had the struggle but didn't need the send-down.  It might require that for Holliday though.  Hopefully not, and still too soon to make that call for sure, but you can't just bat .050 for very long without getting the wrong kind of attention, even as a 20 year old rookie.  You don't have to do great, but you have to do better than that. I do think he's looked better in some recent AB's, including the long fly ball yesterday where he just missed his first homer, but even w/ that, the K's haven't slowed down.  In reality, we are really just 1 or 2 batted balls away from this becoming a non-issue.  If that ball yesterday goes a few more feet onto the flag porch, this discussion is instantly different.
    • That’s interesting.  My expectation was a 3.5-4 WAR type season. I still think he gets close to that.
    • I hate that we can't get any information from minor league rehab stuff. I would love to hear what Means has to say about it, or the coaching staff, or Hyde/Elias. It's tough to have nothing to go on.
    • Rubenstein didn’t do anything.   Anyone who thought that is the type of person who thinks if a pretty girl says hello to them they’ll accept a marriage proposal.
    • From July 19 to July 31, in 48 PA, he had a .326 OPS.  Close!
    • If he starts hitting, he won’t be batting 9th.
    • https://www.theringer.com/mlb/2024/4/18/24132083/oakland-athletics-relocation-sacramento-fan-resistance-boycott   Hope I got that link in there right.  Thought I'd share this story about the A's fan protests.  Futile though they may (definitely) be, its quite admirable.  I find this whole story so heartbreaking for those fans.  Not that hard to imagine something like that in Baltimore; we are fortunate it hasn't and appears that it won't in the foreseeable future.  Seems highly doubtful that Rubenstein turns into a Fisher type - and honestly Camden Yards seems to be the ultimate defense against any kind of relocation - but you just never know. Anyway, even w/o tying this into any Orioles relocation angst - past, present, or future -  this is just a sad sad story.
