Maybe we could have all the press prediction and Orioles slights in one thread. No one knows how teams will finish. If they did they wouldn't be sharing it with others and would be placing bets in Vegas.

Not shocking whatsoever. The rag and the boys in Bristol have been Orioles doubters since the emergence in 2012. 77 wins could happen but my guess is they're going for a little shock value there. And keep the natives in Boston and NY pleased.

This is the same magazine that in spring 2012, when going through what would have to go right for each team to make the playoffs, said something to the tune of "There is literally no scenario where the Orioles make the playoffs this year."

That infuriated me at the time, even though I thought the Orioles were going to be mediocre at best. Someone who was being paid to write about baseball couldn't even be bothered to jot down some crazy scenario where the Orioles would succeed.

I can't imagine ESPN or SI preseason predictions are any more accurate at predicting standings than one of those zoo animals that swats at a picture and people call it a prediction.

I always find it hilarious that people get paid to be consistently wrong. I'd bet 75% of the posters on this board could predict anything to do with baseball better than the pundits. FA's, trades. Hell that's why Rickli got famous or infamous, why not just guess too.

Right. They could have mentioned that arrieta could have broken out or some other young pitcher or combination of pitchers or prospects breaking out. Or something like that.

I honestly don't see how we aren't better than the Yankees this year. Their infield is pathetic, Ellsbury is going to get hurt and Beltran is approaching fartknocker status. Their rotation can be pretty solid and I'm not sure about their bullpen. But after a quick position by position checklist rundown in my head, I like us better around the diamond, 1-9 in the lineup and I think we're at LEAST equal in the staff.

Tampa 93-69

Redsox 89-73

Yankees - 82-80

Blue Jays - 79-83

Orioles - 77-85

Thoughts?

Did they give any reasons for this or is it just ESPN being ESPN?

I love it. That's where many people predicted Boston would wind up last year.

I disagreed with the Boston naysayers last offseason. And I heartily disagree with the Baltimore naysayers this offseason.

I think we'll be right there around 85-92 wins, and in the playoff picture at the end.
