Read it here.

But what if none of these rosy, Up With People scenarios plays out and the Sox remain in last place in the East?

We?ve seen what can happen around here when the Red Sox fall apart. We saw it in 2001 and 2012. And it turns out it was happening during the last couple of months of the ill-fated 2011 campaign.

When the Sox fall apart, that?s when things can get nasty. Fingers get pointed. Sulking players deliver off-the-record whispers to press-box trusties. The delivery man from Popeyes shows up in the fourth inning.

So here?s a preemptive strike: If things don?t get better for the Red Sox, how about they channel their so-called ?great chemistry? and lose with dignity? (They certainly didn?t yesterday, staging an embarrassing in-game hissy fit after Yunel eEscobar stole third base.)

This was after Farrell used Pierzynski behind the plate in a Lester start against the Blue Jays, his rationale being the veteran catcher has put up good numbers over the years against Toronto starter Mark Buehrle. After Lester was tagged for five runs in two innings in a 7-2 loss to the Jays, Pierzynski dismissed discussion about the Lester/Ross “comfort level” conundrum by saying, “I’m not answering that question anymore. It doesn’t matter. You (media) guys keep bringing that up. Jon and I, the first (start on) Opening Day we did well together, you know, and today was one of those days when things didn’t work out. It had nothing to do with me catching. You guys can say that all you want, but I had nothing to do with that.”

“It had nothing to do with me catching.”

“I had nothing to do with that.”

Pierzynski has played 17 seasons in the majors. He’s a two-time All-Star, has earned a Silver Slugger and in 2005 made 124 starts behind the plate for the World Series-champion White Sox. And come on: John Lackey looked pretty good Friday night with Pierzynski catching.

But it might interest Pierzynski to know that his own manager put it out there that Lester has a “comfort level” with Ross. As for this it-had-nothing-to-do-with-me comment about Lester’s rough start against the Blue Jays, it smacks of the kind of buck-passing that was not in evidence last season.

Maybe Pierzynski’s comment was just a brush fire that has been extinguished.

Or maybe it’s a red flag, a sign of things to come.

(vs. INDIANS, 6/14)

The Red Sox lost to the Indians today by a score of 3-2.

They (the Red Sox) had a 2-1 lead, but an error in the top of the 7th inning led to 2 unearned runs for the Indians, and that score held up as a final.

    • Given his injury history and what’s happening right now, Means may make more money as an Oriole next year than as a free agent. He may have to settle for league minimum as a FA but would do better than that in arbitration. Heck, unless he’s effective at least a little this year then the orioles might release him after the season to avoid paying more than league minimum. I hope Means recovers, very much so, but this scenario is possible imo.    ps. I guess I ignored the part where you said if Means thinks he is healthy.
    • What I'd like to see in the next game Holliday plays, is for him to keep his eyes following through on the ball when he swings. In the last game I saw, he was yanking his head off the zone when he swung and couldn't see the bat to the ball. He was missing wildly and it wasn't even competitive. So, keep your eye on the ball! Follow all the way through! If your swing is so violent that it's yanking your head off the sight of the ball, then adjust your mechanics because you can't hit what you can't see!
    • What a great example of pedantic! Please tell us you meant to do that. I honestly can’t tell these days.
    • Well it certainly doesn't look like he'll be winning Rookie of Year award. And if we send him down for like the tiniest amount of time, we get him for another year, right? I think if this poor hitting continues it's financial mismanagement not to send him back down. Grayson got sent down and came back way better.
    • He certainly isn't a bust but I wasn't happy with the pick at the time and I don't love using the second overall pick for that type of player profile. Westburg signed for slot so he's irrelevant but Mayo was a great use of the money saved.
    • Think Heston will be the next call up. Mayo’s K/BB ratio is poor and I think they’ll want to see that even out. Stowers and Norby have seen their numbers slip a bit.  It will likely take an injury to an outfielder or first baseman, but I think we see HK next.
