I'm listening to the audio feed and from what I can tell and keep in mind I don't speak Spanish, but I swear they said something about Jones not being in the lineup. I'm still listening to hear if he comes up to bat...

What are you guys listening to to figure this out? I speak Spanish and I would really like to know the answer to these questions.

You don't need consistency in your BP from the same players year-in and year-out. I'm not saying SD should move six of their guys since they had good years. I am saying if you can find someone who is willing to give up talent for your RP, more often than not you should make the deal because the BP arm is easy to replace.

This coincides with my opinion. For the most part, relief pitchers are journeymen who are relatively easily replaced. They're interchangeable parts and the overall quality of your bullpen will depend upon as much on how they're used and luck than it will what their names are.

Yes, you need a bullpen to protect your young arms you're developing, but if those young arms aren't able to get to the 7th inning most of the time, no matter how good the bullpen is, it's going to get worn down.

Just for kicks, I took the stats for all the bullpens in 2007 and ranked the teams in terms of ERA, IP, BAA, strikeouts, BB, and saves, just to see how much correlation was visible with the naked eye.

There's not as much correlation between innings pitched and ERA as I was expecting there would be. Of course, there are a lot of other factors affecting the bullpen ERA, including the manager's ability to generate favorable matchups, coaching, defense, injuries, luck, and obviously the amount of talent among the relievers.
