Report: Jones Damaged Goods?

It doesn't make sense to actually cancel the physical though.

There is no logic behind that..Fly him here and look for yourself. Maybe your doctors disagree or say that it will be 10+ years before there is any real issue.

I also find it hard to believe that we have been targeting him for 2 months and just now looked at a medical record of him.

You make a good point about "The When" but there's not doubt "IF" they just discovered it, or the magnitude of it, you can't do the rumored 4-1 or 5-1 deal.

Thought this deserved its own thread...

Last night BEJ mentioned a "legit complex issue" that was holding up the deal.

If THIS turns out to be true than this all makes a lot of sense. ANd it would certainly explain the tight-lipped-ness of all parties involved. MacPhail can't come out and publically comment on another team's player like that.

That WOULD be tampering.

I can understand why McPhail would be upset with a leak saying the deal is done ... because he probably cannot come out and say that publicly (maybe even a legal component here), and when everyone thinks this guy is coming on board and then hears he's not, they all get upset and the backlash begins.

hmmmmm......

That is a great point. Maybe they want Jones to come by himself before finalizing the terms of the overall trade. It just keeps getting more and more interesting...

This is the classic case of hangout reading too much into things and starting to believe it. The Orioles have to do there homework on this one, so stop rushing to conclusions. The only thing worse than holding onto Bedard and having him get hurt by the deadline is trading for Jones and having him retire in 3 years.

Stan the fan is a jerk for disclosing this even if it is true because Jones seems like a great kid and if this is true then he has done severe damage to the kids career for no good reason. Stan the fan is the only guy who ever seems to get Peter to sit down and interview for his local paper. I am suspicious of why he of all people would be the one to break this news and I am sure it will not hurt awareness of his small time local paper. If it is true great for the Orioles for not being suckered into another Glen Davis trade but very unprofessional to call the kid out unless Stan has some very solid evidence to back this up and I still think it is wrong. News like this shoud not be made public in my opinion. Mcphail would never leak this so Angelos must have called in a favor with Stan. This deal is likely cooked and we again look like jokers because KR and Heyman know that Stan is a lacky for Peter and will call it as they see it or want to see it.

Not a huge StF guy, but why is he a jerk for this if it's true? Jones career is not damaged, just his trade value for the moment. Also, anyone who signs him as a free agent 6 years from now will do a physical and if it indeed is an issue now, it will be super obvious by that time. I'm sure the M's would do their own exam before giving him a long term deal themselves.

This sounds to me like a Stan the Fan dig at Angelos. Degenerative hip? Remember that most of PGA's paranoia dates back to Albert Belle and his hip. I didn't hear it, but that would fit his somewhat sarcastic humor.

As in PGA nixed the deal beacuse he was worried the plane Jones was flying in on was full of asbestos.

i.e. He nixed it for no good reaqson other than his paranoia.

Just a thought.

Seriously, even the O's can't be that inept. Can they.....

Who knows if any of this is true but if he does have a hip condition, it's likely we'd need a specialist consultant to check it out and that could easily take a few days to arrange.

This is a stretch of course but no more so than any of the other stuff we've been reading lately.

I think the Angelos nixing the deal (which I still stand by saying it didn't happen) would be legit now.

Considering the headache with Belle, I can completely understand Angelos being hesitant to go forward when this type of concern might need to be addressed.

Yep, our team doctors are so good they can diagnose a complex medical condition from medical history. They don't need to examine Jones in person like every other doctor in the world would want to do. There is no doctor who would diagnose a degenerative medical condition without a complete and thorough physical.

If this was really a problem, Jones' trip and physical could have been rescheduled, not canceled like it was.

I still don't see how Jones plays competitive baseball in Venezuela this winter if Seattle has any doubt about his health.

If an Oriole official leaked this information, the Orioles are looking for a way to save face on why this deal went away. Even if it was the least bit true, Seattle team officials would NOT be happy with the Orioles for their accusations on Adam Jones' medical history.

    • Yeah, basically this, that Westburg's underlying numbers (EV, barrel %, xwOBA) seem to point at this being pretty real, or at least that there's nothing 'undeserved / lucky' about this hot streak, if it's just that.
    • The problem with a Cowser/Kjerstad/Stowers/Bradfield outfield roster is there are no right handers to handle LHP. I don't think and completely left handed outfield is the destination for an organization the values versatility.
    • Looks maybe concussion related.
    • How can you not be romantic about baseball? This seems slightly poetic. I enjoyed reading, and correlated your experience in the stands back to what I watch in Game 1 on MASN.  It was also pretty cool to hear Jim Palmer give you a shout out in Game 2 of the series on Live TV.
    • I am not worried.  It just doesn’t remotely meet the eye test.  He has been great in the field . I can think of at least 3 outstanding plays he has made and not any that I thought he should have gotten but didn’t. Meanwhile Holliday is 3 OAA and I can’t think of an outstanding play and can think of a number I thought he should have made.
    • Nicely stated Roy. Every since I was 9 years old and saw the O's vs. the Tokyo Giants in Tokyo in 1971, I've been infected with the Orange/Black virus. There is no cure and I don't want one. You and I sat at the lunch table with Jim Palmer at the 1970 World Series Champs reunion, and its still one of my enduring baseball memories. You said I looked like Carlton Fisk! I was at all 3 games in this Angels series, right behind the O's dugout. I got to see all our boys, and just simply love to watch this team play. And in true baseball fashion, the one game on paper we should have dominated (GRod vs. 8+ ERA Channing), we end up down 7-0 and lose. But watching Gunnar's homers, his electric triple, and he made a fantastic play today on a ball that went under Westburg's glove, Adley do Adley things, Cowser, holy crap. Kimbrel v. Trout with bases loaded, bottom of 9th, 2 outs, down by 2? That was fun. Next game Trout bats leadoff and torches a GRod fastball for a homer to the opposite field.  An observation.... If you didn't know anything about the team, and you only watched game 1 batting practice, you'd think Cowser and O'Hearn were the studs of the team. Mountcastle was taking BP with the reserves and he put on a show as well.  Home after 3 straight days watching this O's team, so jealous of the Balt fans in Balt that get to see the team with regularity. It's a special bunch.
