Still can't believe there is fans that think MW stinks at calling games *huge eye roll * I wonder if buck would agree with that BS.

I honestly don't know but his framing isn't the best from what I have seen. I value Tony's opinion on this one.

Good recovery from Joseph after failing to get the bunt down...

Team ERA by catcher: Joseph, 2.93. Wieters,3.93. Hundley, 4.77. Clevenger, 4.85.

Caleb Joseph has 0.9 DWAR, just behind the MLB leaders (Yan Gomes, Jonathan Lucroy and Sal Perez), all at 1.0 and all of whom have played more than twice as many games as Joseph (DWAR is a counting stat).

If Caleb can hit .200 he could have a long career.

I wasn't into Caleb much.. but man those numbers impress me. Let's see if he get the offense going.

Catchers who provide above average defense will always be in high demand. I don't understand why some people don't get that.

No doubt. Worse case scenario lets say he only hits well enough to be a back up to Weiters or someone else next year. I think people underestimate the value that has. No more merry-go-round at backup. The pitchers have a guy they are comfortable and is solid defensively. If your starter goes down you know you have a guy who knows the staff and can cover you defensively. All that at a next to nothing cost. That has great value.

I think Wieters height hurts him and umpires have trouble seeing over his shoulders calling pitches when he's behind the plate. Framing and giving a good target are issues that have been discussed a number of times. Joseph seems to communicate well with the pitchers and goes to the mound when he thinks its necessary. All Good! The numbers can't be ignored.

Definitely a poor game defensively for Joseph tonight. Along with the throwing error, he just gave the Sox a run in the 8th by making a poor throw on a SB attempt, then allowing the runner to reach 3rd on a passed ball, and then making a poor tag on the runner sliding home on an RBI groundout.

Maybe he's gotten a big head from reading too many nice things written about him on this site!

Maybe playing every day is starting to expose the fact that he's not a ML player.

It was a two-seamer that Hundley set up very low and Britton threw very high. Was probably out of the strike zone. Beltran said in the post-game that he was looking for a high fastball and he got it.

Before the Beltran bomb, the O's pitchers had given up 7 walks and 10 hits. Only great D and the pitchers' grittiness had kept the Y's down. And if people are going to pile on Hundley about this, you also have to do away with his no-hitter spoiling double (run scored) and perfect sac bunt (setting up the third run)--Odds are not good that Joseph would have supplied those. I give him credit for just handling Ubaldo and his endless deep counts and 6 walks. Surprised he could hit and handle the next few pitchers after that!

I wasn't talking about one pitch. Britton never threw anything but sinkers and he was struggling to find the zone with the pitch. At some point you have to realize that no matter how good a guy's main pitch is, if you throw 26 straight of them someone's going to light him up. It was definitely a terrible pitch by Britton, no doubt, but I wasn't a fan of how Hundley handled him that game.
