I think AM "was" conceptually good at tearing down and re-structuring an organization. I'm not so sure he'd be a good choice even at that at this point though. His biggest strength of networking and relationships is probably a minimal factor now. Aside from that, he is far behind the times in analysis and critical thinking imo. I'd say the game has largely passed him by. Baseball Commissioner might be his best gig. I'm sure he'd be content to hold par at that job and not make any mistakes or ruffle any feathers.

I don't know much about the source of the Padres' problems. Is it just money? Are they as screwed up as the Orioles were when Andy took over?

Let's make sure any trades we make with them are done before Andy get's there.
