What would you do if you were at the game tonight?

For the record, I don't see any reason to boo him even if I were a "fan of booing". I mean he played hard while he was here under some pretty miserable teams, he had some injuries his last couple of years but he worked through them to come back. I don't really get why there would be hatred.

You give him a huge ovation in his first at bat and then you cheer or boo according to the game dynamics each at-bat/play after that. He gave the majority of his career to the city and was one of if not the best player on some of the worst teams in club history.

You do not boo.

IMO you boo a guy like Tex who leaves his home town hanging for the rivals and says he wanted to be there all along. You do not boo a guy like Roberts who played many years in this city and only left to NY because they were the only ones offering a job. You'll see the split between the classy and the classless of Baltimore in his first at bat.

I would just sit there.

This. Or maybe a brief golf clap to acknowledge his long time Orioleness. Then it's on to the Brian Roberts, Yankee, era where you just reflexively boo their every move.

We can give him a big ovation in a few years when he's inducted into the Oriole HOF and he's not wearing pinstripes.

Put me down for the golf clap.

    • 2 hits in 29 at-bats?   I feel bad for him- what a rough start to the year.   He hit pretty well last year so I assume he'll heat up at some point but that is a slump and a half...
    • Misspelled Gary Thorne.
    • Maybe, but the other aspect I was considering is how fans travel. Baltimore won't get fans traveling from Los Angeles, Kansas City, Milwaukee, Minneapolis or Oakland. But they will from the likes of Philly, New York, Boston, Toronto, etc, especially as the O's continue to win and the weather gets nicer. But if the O's can draw 25,000+ locally for an April weekend series against the A's, then I would expect some huge attendance numbers the rest of the season.
    • Give Roch a giant trophy for his "streak".  Its a lot cheaper than extending Gunnar or Adley.
    • Emotional?  I don't think Elias is the emotional type. The incentive for another team is to get a guy that can eat innings. A 100 loss team needs cheap guys that can eat innings. We've been the 100 loss team often enough to know.
    • I tend to disagree with is perspective being as relevant now. Traditionally attendance was influenced/dependent upon the opponent draw. Our fans wanting to see “the better teams” and the bigger fan bases visiting the Yard. However, I believe that times have changed. Because we have so many homegrown stars and such an excellent team, the O’s are much more of a draw themselves since the days of Cal Ripken. The Oakland series will be well attended. Early this week I purchased tix to next Sunday’s game and there were very few sections that had 4 tix available. And this is for the lowly Athletics.
    • The Orioles are the one team that has an investment in him, both monetary and emotional.   They are the one team incentivized to have him pitch in the majors this year. What ML team, rebuilding or not, wants to take a pitcher who’s given up 14 hits, including 5 home runs, in 7 AAA innings, stick him in their bullpen, so he can keep accumulating FA service time? What’s their incentive?   That he’s going to magically turn into the 2021 John Means and they can flip him at the deadline?    While it’s possible that he regains form, I don’t think there’s a ML team willing to take the lumps on a longshot.
