Gotta get help at the black hole at 2nd base

Up until this offseason, his hands were tied a bit with Roberts' contract. I agree though, he needs to do something about second base. I really don't know what Ivan DeJesus has done but I can't imagine he could be worse than what we have right now.

I was wondering about DeJesus as well. He must not be as good as advertised?

I'm still inclined to bring Lombardozzi up to start.

Lombardozzi's not the solution, imo. He doesn't have the defensive tools that the other options have at 2B (with the possible exception of Weeks), and he's got very little pop. Imo, his only value is that he can play several positions.

It really makes no sense when you consider keeping Schoop in the minors like they did with Weiters would have given us control for a longer period of time.

That, and our best 2B currently plays for Norfolk, WTF.

Wasting away that Lombo trade has been a head scratcher all year.

Why, Alex Gonzalez played 9 games for the Tigers and got DFA?

So we gave up, what, a body that we wasn't going to keep on the roster and not at AAA.

I am ready for another option.

My gut tells me the Brob ship has sailed, but like you I am ready to try ANYTHING to shore this up.

I agree there are other culprits, Davis, a slumping Cruz, the Pearce magic has sailed

I expect at least 2 of those guys to pick it back up.

What I don't see happening right now is Schoop helping the offense this year. I do think he'll get better, and he's too good defensively to give up on, but were in a pennant race.

I am almost at the point of trading some talent to acquire somebody who can REALLY help.

The few guys playing well at 2nd, will have extremely high price tags.

Schoop has still by far the lowest OPS of the 4 in the last 28 days. I don't see your point. The other 3 have struggled. It's actually mind boggling how terrible Schoop has been at the plate. He has an OPS below .550 since April. He's been just downright terrible for 3 months now.

Roberts is not a significant offensive upgrade:

B/C every game Lombo spends not being our starting 2B is a waste imo.

I'd have Schoop back down in the minors learning 3B and how to hit, and Lombo at 2B. Whenever Schoop learns how to hit, bring him up as a 3B, move Manny back to his natural position (before it's too late), and trade Hardy (now that it already IS too late, given his sudden and extreme offensive dropoff).

I love having the steady defense. At the same time we simply have too many holes in the lineup and will rely way too heavily on markakis, machado, jones, Cruz and company.

Wieters gone so very little offense from catcher. Only reason I can live with it is the excellent defense and excellent pitching.

1B- Crush has been really bad minus a few very timely homeruns. I can live with staying with him for his track record and proven ability to be a difference maker and he draws occasional walks and plays good defense.

LF-Pearce was great for a while... He clearly is in a steep decline however. I wouldn't be opposed to finding another option there...possibly even move Cruz there and DH the red hot Delmon young. young has earned the chance to get some regular ABs at this point.

2B- easily the spot we simply HAVE to address. Flaherty had been given multiple opportunities throughout the past few years. He's not the answer. schoop is NOT ready to be in a pennant chasing lineup. Send him down and pull off a waiver deal to bring in some production.

We can't expect to compete with the Tigers or te A's with the lineup constructed as is. Especially when we also don't have any kind of real Aces in our rotation. We have an excellent bullpen and some fantastic position players at certain spots. Shore up a hole or two even and give yourself a fighting chance. If you don't go all in now when will you ? We will potentially lose multiple big time contributors in the next couple of years. You simply have to go for it now!

I get that side of the argument, but don't you wonder the what if? What if he's also the greatest defensive S/S of all-time, or hell, just merely gold glove level? imo, you put your best defensive infielder in the infield's most important position.

Willie Mays, Tori Hunter and Jim Edmonds all would have probably been the game's best RF in their prime, but they belonged in center.

BRob? This is 2014.

I agree with a something/anything attempt at change but, IMO, there still needs to be a balance of D/O. I really don't know how we are still playing well against the alleged big boys. There are not many positive constants in our line-up except AJ. When i see Davis PH'ing last night I got really bummed out.

The best "trade" we could make right now is to realize that being open to change is ok - at least to try. The biggest problem is the fact is we really do not have anyone ready to try in our farm system. We desperately need some good positional prospects coming through the system, which is why I agree that, as much as it may hurt, trading an "important" piece for 2-3 decent prospects needs to be seriously looked at this offseason (I know, I know we should have traded blah blah blah). I am not even talking about the obvious ones, there should be potential replacements for JJ and Nick at a minimum.
